Genetic Resources Management
Requirements
The successful candidate must be in possession of at least a RECOGNIZED BSc Agric or BSc(Hons) Degree or equivalent qualification including subjects in Crop Science or Botany, specialization in botanical taxonomy will be an advantage, recognized formal qualification in evidence of computer literacy (MS Office and a good knowledge of database management), good communication( verbal and written) skills in English, a valid drivers license and the ability to drive, appropriate experience in the field plant genetic resources is essential, the candidate must be prepared to travel countrywide to rural communities in carrying out his/her duties, knowledge and/or experience in agro-ecological surveying, collection and storage of plant genetic material, coupled with basic operations of plant/seed gene banks are crucial for this post.
Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Maintain a cooperative association with the agricultural extension officers
Execute plans and collection missions of all plant genetic resources for food and agriculture(land races, wild relatives and endangered medicinal plants) from all ecological zones
Verify and Identify all collected species and samples before being captured into the database.
Manage the database pertaining to collections
Assist the ex-situ officer with the conventional storage of orthodox types in a national base and active collection
