Environmental Officer - NewcastleReference: JHB000020-KC-2We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Officer to join our team at mining sites located in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa. The Environmental Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental authorisations and licences, tracking and monitoring compliance, conducting inspections and monitoring activities, managing waste and invasive species, providing on-site support for environmental matters, and assisting with various environmental applications. The successful candidate should possess a solid understanding of South African environmental legislation, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and be proficient in using MS Office and MS Excel.Duties & ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:Ensure compliance with environmental authorisations and license's on site, in accordance with applicable South African environmental legislation.Track and monitor compliance with environmental requirements and regulations, identifying areas of improvement and recommending corrective actions as necessary.Conduct daily inspections and monitoring activities to assess and document environmental conditions and compliance status on site.Provide on-site support to the Group Environment department, assisting with environmental initiatives, programs, and projects.Maintain an updated complaints register and promptly address and resolve environmental complaints raised by stakeholders.Report environmental incidents and non-compliances to the relevant authorities and management, ensuring appropriate corrective measures are implemented.Manage waste management activities on site, including waste disposal, recycling programs, and compliance with waste management regulations.Implement and oversee alien and invasive species management programs, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.Provide assistance to General and Mine Managers regarding environmental aspects, offering guidance and expertise in environmental management practices.Assist with the preparation and submission of environmental applications in compliance with the National Environmental Management Act, National Water Act, National Environmental Management: Waste Act, and other applicable regulations.Serve as the Environmental Control Officer for different projects, overseeing and coordinating environmental aspects to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of South African environmental legislation and industry best practices, and apply this knowledge to enhance environmental management on site.Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to foster positive relationships and promote environmental sustainability.Qualifications and Experience:National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.In-depth knowledge and understanding of South African Environmental Legislation, regulations, and guidelines.Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management software.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar role as an environmental officer, preferably within the mining industry or related sectors.Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex environmental concepts to diverse stakeholders.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.Proactive and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different mining sites within KwaZulu-Natal, as well as Head office, Midrand, GP as and when required.Package & RemunerationMarket related - Market related - Monthly plus Pension
