Job Description


The Estate Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the repair and maintenance of vehicle fleets, equipment, and buildings on the estate. This includes managing stock control, procurement, and staff supervision. The role requires planning and maintaining gardens, roads, and drainage systems, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and implementing effective maintenance schedules. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, experience in a farm environment, and the ability to work in a high-pressure agricultural setting. Proficiency in English and Afrikaans, computer literacy, and staff management skills are essential.Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the repair and maintenance of the vehicle fleet and equipment.
  • Conduct basic construction and building maintenance, including electrical work.
  • Manage stock control.
  • Compile and submit reports promptly.
  • Handle procurement: obtain quotations, process purchase orders, and manage the collection and distribution of purchases.
  • Supervise and manage staff.
  • Operate effectively in a high-pressure agricultural environment.
  • Plan and manage the maintenance of gardens and lawns to maintain aesthetic appeal.
  • Coordinate necessary maintenance on buildings and structures.
  • Ensure roads and adjacent drainage systems are well-maintained.
  • Develop and implement a maintenance schedule for all rental and company-owned vehicles, equipment, and tractors on the estate.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company Vehicle Policy by all drivers and address deviations through disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain a driver register to ensure compliance with competency testing and PDP licensing for all drivers.
  • Implement and monitor service level agreements with bus transport providers, ensuring safe driving practices and addressing violations.
  • Develop and oversee an effective spray program for the estate in consultation with other departments.
  • Enforce adherence to health and safety policies and spray procedures for all operations.
  • Monitor and enforce all health and safety measures according to legislation and the company safety plan, taking corrective actions for deviations.
  • Issue and record the distribution of PPE to all employees in the Estate Maintenance department.
  • Evaluate and procure all necessary safety equipment to minimize hazards.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education; tertiary qualification is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a farm environment.
  • Proficient mechanical, welding, and auto electrical skills on agricultural equipment and vehicles.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Email, Excel, Word, and the internet.
  • Strong administration and report writing skills.
  • Experience in procuring agricultural equipment, workshop, tractor, and vehicle spares and parts.
  • Possess a Code 8 Drivers License; Code 10 is an advantage.
  • Good communication skills in English and Afrikaans; Xhosa is an advantage.
  • Strong staff management skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of large-scale crop production.
  • Knowledge of ground maintenance and gardening.
