  • Develop and maintain the network optimisation strategy for the Vodacom South Africa's Radio Access network.
  • Drive the adoption and implementation of machine learning in Radio Optimisation community.
  • Ensure data-driven decision-making and business success by driving the implementation of the Radio Access Strategic Network Optimisation key initiatives.
  • Arrange discussion groups to provide and obtain feedback and input into the strategy, roadmap and guidelines.
  • Obtain and secure the associated resources to enable implementation of the optimisation strategy
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Analyse the Business Strategy and Roadmaps of Engineering Business Partners/Associate Companies and Competitors to determine future trends and application of Strategy related to Network optimisation
  • Lead cross functional teams in network optimisation taking into consideration the requirements for provisioning of the best quality of service to all Vodacom customers.
  • Develop end to end network optimisation programme ( taking into consideration Transmission and Core ) in line with the blue print on Architecture , Spectrum , new technologies and products .
  • Development of complex statistical and performance counters to develop new concepts and toolsets to support strategic Network performance Analysis and Performance Evaluation
  • Diagnostic support to regional operations and engineering staff regarding end-to-end network performance trends and challenges.
  • Investigation of complex network performance issues that have bearing on the interworking between separate network technologies.
  • Principal liason with vendors of network infrastructure regarding the performance analysis capabilities and diagnostics of their equipment - including special investigation of new vendor diagnostic functions and services.
  • Development of advanced frequency-planning techniques, support to regional operations
  • Investigation into alternative methods of network performance analysis and their applicability to Vodacom
  • Investigation and recommendation of the most suitable metrics for high level reporting, benchmarking and network performance target determination within Vodacom.
  • Principal liaison with Vodafone Group regarding strategic Optimisation techniques and standards.
  • Co-ordination of strategic, network-wide parameter and feature introduction and optimization.
  • Special assistance and investigation into performance of other networks in the Vodacom and Vodafone Groups (Ghana, DRC, Lesotho), including staff visits and formal reports.

  • Development of network traffic and performance metric trending techniques for use in Vodacom, Vodafone and International OpCo's.
  • Design of and support for the traffic-mapping components and investigation into its effectiveness and future enhancement.
  • Diagnostic support to regional operations and engineering staff regarding network optimisation and performance improving initiatives.
  • Network performance improvements through use of cluster optimisation and benchmarking services and other initiatives.
  • Recommendation and active performance enhancement through audits, cluster drive testing, statistical analysis and campaigns of special events.
  • Recommendations on best-practice w.r.t. Optimisation and dimensioning activities.
  • Guide the team in statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making by applying statistical methods, including hypothesis testing, to interpret data.
  • Recommendations on specific cluster as well as network improvement through the analysis of statistics and drive testing, probe analysis, database audits and various Vodafone projects and trials.
  • Liaison with vendors of network infrastructure regarding the performance and best-practice optimisation of their equipment including special investigation of new vendor functions and services.
  • Manage the timeous issuance of relevant Radio Access network strategic optimisation guidance and policies for Vodacom
  • Provide support in respect of Strategic Network Optimisation to other groups within the Vodacom Group.
  • Manage the Human Resources of the Strategic Optimisation department.
  • Drive operational efficiency to ensure continues growth and sustainability.
  • Ensure high performing, engaged and driven team.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:Qualification & Experience
  • Four-year degree / Postgraduate in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • MBA or Management Develop Programme advantageous.
  • 10 - 12 Years in the Telecommunication Industry, including at least 6 Years in a Senior Line Management Position;
  • 10 Years in GSM- 2G/3G/LTE, WiFi/5G Networks.
