Extrusion Shift Production Supervisor

Job Description


The purpose of this role is to achieve optimum effectiveness of the Extrusion Department through Material, Plant and Equipment, Process, Product and Labour resource optimisation; ie. plan, lead, organise and control available resources to cost effectively manufacture Blend, Sheeting, Tubing and Overpouches.Responsibilities:

  • Supervise production in PVC Blending / Compounding, PVC Sheet Extrusion, PVC/PE Pipe Extrusion, PE Blown Film Extrusion and Recycling Sections.
  • Achievement and enhancement of product quality standards (pharmaceutical components).
  • Ensure compliance to all plant manufacturing SOPs and Specs. in Extrusion Department.
  • Review daily Production Batch Records for GMP conformance.
  • Meet scheduled production outputs and achieve Productivity Indices in all Sections.
  • Control machine downtime and contribute to effective equipment maintenance programmes.
  • Effective line change-overs, process optimisation and trouble-shooting in all Sections.
  • Elimination of waste and scrap reduction through analysis of root causes and implementation of corrective measures for defect prevention, cost containment / reduction and meet MUV stds.
  • Daily review, reconciliation & closure of Oracle production batches.
  • Effective corrective action and preventive action, i.e. Non-conformances (Hold Notices), Audit Points, Customer Complaints, Minor and Disabling Injuries and Product DPMs.
  • Implement / facilitate Generic and Core Competency training and coaching in all Sections.
  • Comply with OHS Act, SOPs and GMP regulations to ensure safety during manufacturing.
  • Ensure team compliance to Company Policies and Procedures for a healthy IR climate.
  • Contribute to product and process improvement for Value Improvement Projects (VIP).
  • Participate in projects to Service Level Agreements (SLA requirements) for Development Investigations and Validation Protocols.

  • Plastics Technology (Plastics raw materials and plastic conversion process knowledge).

  • Team player with good oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Minimum Qualification: Grade 12 Mathematics and Science
  • Certificate in Plastic Extrusion / Plastician Extrusion-related (PSA).
  • Minimum Working Experience: 5 Years of Supervision in the Plastics Technology field, preferably in a Pharmaceutical environment.
  • 1 Year in Quality Assurance / Quality Control function.
  • Preferable: National Diploma or B Tech. in Plastics / Polymer Technology.
  • Computer Literacy: MS Office.
