Fruitways specialises in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to selected retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.FARM AREA MANAGERDo you want to be part of a dynamic, creative and fast-moving team? This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced senior manager to take responsibility for a large production unit in Grabouw or Vyeboom, Western Cape.Reporting to the Farming Director, this position will lead a management team to achieve the business unit objectives by applying horticultural and management best practise.Duties include, but is not limited to:

• Setting long and short-term operational objectives for the business unit within the framework of the farming business strategy
• Ensure staff members are engaged by making sure they know what is expected of them, have the tools and skills required to get the job done and are motivated to perform to the best of their ability.
• Plan resource allocation to ensure horticultural best practise is executed on time and on standard
• Measure and monitor productivity and quality standards while making the necessary changes to continuously improve on these.
• Oversee new orchard developments and nurturing of young orchards
• Compile and control the annual operating expense budget for the business unit.
• Deliver inputs on strategic matters that would enable the Farming business to achieve itxe2x80x99s long term objectives.

Qualifications and Skills

• Must have a B.Sc Agriculture Degree and/or similar farming technical qualification
• A business management or managerial qualification will be beneficial
• Must have a minimum of 10+ years experience working on an Apple and Pear farm production unit, including at least 5 years experience in a senior management role.
• Experience working in an organised labour/unionised fruit production environment
• Ability to communicate effectively across a variety of levels within the business unit
• Strong management and leadership skills
• Strong attention to detail, with urgency and drive to get things done
