Function independently in the orchards and able to solve problems encountered.
Record keeping of all irrigation, fertilizer and chemical applications.
Ensure that work is done satisfactory according to set standards by Farm Manager & Researchers.
Report any problems, discrepancies and neglect immediately to Farm Manager.
Applying discipline and grievance procedures of ARC Code of Conduct.
Evaluate Farm Supervisors & Farm Assistants.
Managing poison-, fertilizer-, chemical- and diesel stores.
Stock taking monthly.
Supervise that tractors & vehicles are serviced on time; that diesel & oil usage is recorded and that all tractors and implements are being looked after.
Supervise that installation and maintenance of irrigation systems are done according to plans and regulations.
Supervise that installation and maintenance of new and old trellis systems are correctly applied.
Supervise that the correct work method is applied in pruning of fruit trees/vineyard, planting of new trees/vines and harvest of fruit according to set standards.
Ensure that workers comply with OHS requirements and ensure the correct, safe, cautious and accurate using of tools and equipment.
National Diploma in Agriculture or equivalent.
Valid Drivers License.
Five years relevant experience in farming operations in a research environment.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
Experience in irrigation methods, tractor maintenance.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
