Job Description


Main purpose of the job:

  • The Wits RHI OptiMVacc fieldworkers will be responsible for participant recruitment and data collection at the allocated study sites
  • Where appropriate, they will also contribute towards ongoing monitoring and administration of the designated studies; participate in the process of raising awareness about the studies and creating a relationship between Wits RHI and the community
Location:
  • x 2 Hillbrow, Johannesburg
Key performance areas:
  • Provide information to potential participants about the OptiMVacc study at study sites
  • Conduct screening interviews with potential participants to determine eligibility into study in line with study protocol and SOPs
  • Recruit and obtain informed consent from eligible participants, in line with study protocol, SOPs and Good Clinical Practice
  • Conduct Informed Consent discussion according to site ICF SOP
  • Conduct surveys and/or qualitative interviews with study participants according to study schedule
  • Conduct data extraction from clinic registers, patient records or other relevant data sources as per study requirements/SOPs
  • Collect, manage and maintain quality data for research and operations purposes.
  • Capture data into study databases e.g., REDCap
  • Identify missing data, inconsistencies, and errors and follow up or report on missing data or errors
  • Support translation and transcription of qualitative data if required
  • Adhere to Good Clinical Practice Standards at all times
  • Address relevant concerns about the study with participants and stakeholders
  • Receive queries from participants and address or refer queries accordingly
  • Ensure accurate data collection, compilation and reporting of delegated study activities, including enrolment logs, reimbursement logs and follow up reports
  • Filing and archiving of participant consent forms, and other study documentation in accordance with SOPs
  • Support data entry as needed
  • Facilitate reimbursement for study participation, in collaboration with the HQ team
  • Keep a record of all work completed and ensure all documentation is stored in a secure and confidential manner
  • When needed, revisit source documents to resolve questions, inconsistencies, or missing data
  • Attend relevant internal and external meetings
  • Chair or take minutes of relevant meetings i.e. at in-depth discussions and other research platforms
  • Assists in networking with relevant stakeholders
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Participate in formalised internal training and broader RHI development initiatives
Required minimum education and training:
  • Grade 12
Required minimum work experience:
  • Experience in data collection and/or research i.e. consenting research participants, conducting research
  • interviews or surveys, data extraction, and/or data capturing
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
  • Certification in good clinical practice (GCP) or NIH certification in the last 3 years
  • Fluent in English and other local languages
  • Experience working in a health care environment
  • Empathetic with good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Be tactful, respectful and maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work across different projects, while maintaining independency and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Demands of the job:
  • Travelling and working over weekends (Saturdays) may be required
  • Working within department of health clinics is required and working after hours may be required from time to time
