Company DescriptionMafube Coal (Opencast Mine) is a Joint Venture (50/50) between Thungela & Exxaro Resources. The mine is situated 37km east of Middelburg, in the Mpumalanga province. We are a high performing operation, and together with our shareholders, we deliver millions of tonnes of thermal coal a year to export markets.The Financial Accountant is the primary accounting support to the Finance Controller/Manager, providing advice on how to effectively utilise the accounting and reporting processes at Mafube including:Your responsibilities will include:

• Provide monthly reporting, forecasting, and business planning input and compliance with IFRS and taxation (including VAT)
• Direct Responsibility for the execution of the financial reporting process to both shareholders
• Direct Responsibility for Systems Management, i.e. SAP, HFM, Ramesys, etc.
• Direct responsibility for the preparation and submission of statutory returns
• Prepare and/or review financial statements for Mafube including iXBRL tagging and CIPC submission
• Process journal entries to align intercompany and other accounts with supporting documentation
• Assisting the Financial Manager and the Financial Controller with governance
• Assisting the Financial Controller in the compilation of the budget and forecasts in line with the Shareholders requirements
• Assist the Financial Controller in preparation and reporting of annual budget submissions and monthly forecast
• Assisting with the Operations submission of capital applications to the Investment Review Committee (IRC), OPCO and the Board
• Assisting in the review and sign-off of financial information from all the Shareholders reporting teams, including reconciliations and Fixed Asset Register
• Reconcile financial systems to ensure accurate mapping and loading (SAP, HFM, Ramesys etc.)
• Ensuring that work practices and systems within the Finance team are consistent with Mafube Accounting Policy and statutory requirements
• Share improvement proposals in the finance environment

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting
• Honours degree in finance or related discipline and Qualified or eligible for admission to the Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA) will be advantageous

Experience & Knowledge

• Proficient knowledge of IFRS
• Proficient knowledge of Financial Accounting including budgeting and forecasting
• Proficient knowledge of accounting and reporting systems (SAP, Ramesys and HFM)
• Previous experience in a similar role within mining operations (preferably Coal) an added advantage
• In depth experience in Financial Accounting
• Ability to work under pressure and handle a variable workload

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Tax Law, Financial Accounting, IFRS, Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals and Petroleum Resources Act, etc

• Certificate of Fitness (or be able to obtain one)
