Job Description

Responsibilities:





Act as the primary liaison person between the Fire Systems Service Provider and the Department. Ensure routine and planned corrective maintenance on fire systems is executed as per schedule. Coordinate with insurers for fire system reviews and improvements. Manage CapEx applications to ensure system upgrades align with technological advances. Participate in all root cause analysis and investigations related to fire incidents. Conduct routine site audits to identify fire hazards, assess risk levels, and implement mitigation strategies. Ensure legal compliance and address deviations related to fire systems. Ensure designs comply with South African and international fire safety codes (e.g., SANS 10400-T, SANS 14520, NFPA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, BS EN). Stay updated on evolving fire protection regulations and best practices. Develop and enforce site-specific fire safety standards, including evacuation plans and fire drills. Work with project managers, designers, installers, and contractors to integrate fire protection systems into facility plans. Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases. Conduct site inspections to verify system installation, performance, and regulatory compliance. Develop and oversee testing protocols for fire protection systems. Ensure proper maintenance procedures are implemented and adhered to. Maintain documentation, including engineering drawings, design calculations, test results, and system performance reports. Collaborate with local municipal authorities to ensure fire response preparedness. Work with insurers and external auditors for compliance assessments and risk reviews.


The core responsibilities of the position include:





National Diploma in Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with fire reticulation systems, fire safety standards, and maintenance. Strong knowledge of fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems. Familiarity with fire pump systems, hydrants, hose reels, and emergency lighting. Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Knowledge of building and construction principles related to fire safety. Experience with Maximo or similar CMMS systems. Project management capability.
