Duties/Pligte
The ability to successfully transfer knowledge and skills to the fitness team;
Actively driving, motivating, and managing the fitness instructors to reach individual and team goals on a weekly and monthly basis;
Ensuring that monthly shift rosters are developed and communicated to the fitness team;
Managing all leave applications for the fitness team;
Ensuring that all fitness instructors are suitably qualified (fitness qualification, AED/ CPR);
Providing leadership and management to all staff in the gymnasium, especially in your role as Head of Department;
Preparing monthly and/or weekly reports regarding new member assessments / inductions / programme prescriptions;
Ensuring that effective training and development plans are in place for all fitness instructors;
Actively assisting in the recruitment, selection, and placement of fitness instructors;
Ensuring Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are developed, established, and implemented within the fitness department at the gymnasium;
Completing, overseeing and managing basic fitness assessments (blood pressure, height, weight, BMI calculations, girth measurements, circumferences, and body fat percentage measurements);
Advising all members on the appropriate training techniques and programme options depending on individual needs;
Actively prescribing, overseeing and managing training programme prescriptions for various population groups;
The ability to provide exercise alternatives where needed;
Willingness and the ability to teach various exercises to music classes / floor-based exercise classes if needed;
Effectively managing the fitness team's monthly remuneration budgets;
Establishing an effective and positive supply chain management system with key suppliers to the gymnasium;
Proactively dealing with all member queries relating to the fitness department in a timeous manner;
Proactively communicating all equipment breakdowns to the maintenance department in a timeous manner;
Ensuring that all customer queries, complaints and compliments are resolved timeously;
Assisting the General Manager with any other ad hoc projects;
Being part of the senior management team of the gymnasium as Head of Department and Manager on Duty.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
Relevant qualification in sport/ health/ fitness/ group exercise is essential;
The ability to successfully transfer knowledge and skills to the fitness team;
Computer literate (Microsoft Windows);
Excellent planning, administrative, organisational and problem-solving skills;
Passion for the sports / health / fitness industry; Excellent attention to detail;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
The ability to thrive in a team within a diverse work environment;
Good conflict management skills;
Must be willing to work after hours and weekends.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
Fitness industry-related experience;
Previous experience in managing a diverse team will be a distinct advantage;
* A qualification in management or business management will be advantageous.
