Fixed Asset Accountant - Empangeni Full job descriptionCandidate responsibilities:Responsible for the management of asset accounting at a terminal level.To ensure that PPE transactions processed are valid, accurate and complete, which results in the Fixed Assets and Capital Work in Progress Accounts being an accurate representation of the value of the Terminals asset base.Responsible for the management and planning of activities related to asset accounting as well as process monitoring and improvements.Position OutputsReportingCompile the monthly asset reports for the allocated terminals.Review the status of IFRS 5 related assets for appropriateness and ensure assets are recorded as held for sale when the criteria are met.Responsible for the asset and CWIP account reconciliations Including related supporting schedules.Management of WIP capital projects portfolios, ensuring timeous capitalisations.Provide monthly progress reports on capital projects to the Financial Manager as well as the Asset Specialist at HQActively manage the accounting for assets in terms of compliance with IFRS includingconsideration of impairment, change in useful life, residual value and disclosure requirements.Liaise with Internal Audit for asset related audit steps (for transactions performed at the terminal)TransactionsAccountability for validity, accuracy and completeness of all transactions relating tocapex, capitalisation, transfers, disposals and impairmentsDetermine the correct categorisation of assets at acquisitionResponsible for the accuracy of the monthly depreciation run.Identify the need for an impairment of an asset based on the conditions per the accounting standards including the preparation of the relevant paperwork for approval.Identifying and recommending assets for disposal. Manage the asset withdrawalprocess.Coordinate tagging of assets capitalised (with the SAP generated asset number or asystematic number used by the terminal)Preparation and management of the asset verification plan for the terminal.Liaise with Terminal Operations and Finance as well as HQ Business Case Writersto provide information during the preparation of business cases.Provide information for the preparation of budgets cash flows and forecasting depreciation/depreciation simulationsEnsure that capital budgets and cash flows are aligned to those at HQ.Transactions are in compliance with policy and legislation.Ensure all capital spares are booked into stores and all capital items in stores are recognised on the asset register as capital spares.Manage the capitalisation of spares to assets; and Reconcile all costs relating tomega projects with expenditure records of Transnet Capital Projects and sign off on a monthly basis.ControlsComply with the minimum controls frameworkExtract information to provide internal and external audit requirements for assetrelated audit stepsAttend the Project Steering Committee meetings and initiate action based onoutcome of the meeting (provide a summary to the Asset Specialist and FinancialAccountant at the terminal concerned)Monitoring of project spending to budget to identify when the project budget is close to being exceeded including notification to the terminal CAPIC and HQ Capital InvestmentManager for projects requiring an increase in ETCHanding over of assets to the new cost centre owner in the event of a change in individual (cost centre owner)Co-ordinate with the HQ FAS in obtaining the quarterly CC Manager sign-off for assets per cost centre.ADHOC ProjectsSupplying assets information to the Third-Party ValuatorsAttending project meetings and reporting back to the Asset Specialist (HQ) and theFinancial ManagerAttending terminal CAPICInvolvement with the Project team carrying-out the asset tagging process, includinglinking the unique tag number to the asset registers.Together with the HQ Asset Specialist, create a process to ensure swift disposal.Please have SAP Experience as its a must & not negotiable.Please also be based or have accommodation in Richardsbay or Empangeni.Please also attach certified qualification and cvJob Type: Full-timePay: R24 000,00 - R28 000,00 per monthAbility to commute/relocate:Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)Education:Diploma (Required)Application Deadline: 2025/02/09Expected Start Date: 2025/03/01
