Position overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Fleet Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of our vehicle fleet. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient deployment of vehicles, cost-effective maintenance schedules, regulatory compliance, and the overall safety and performance of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

Fleet Operations and Management: The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet, including scheduling, dispatching, routing, and driver assignments. Ensure optimal vehicle utilization and cost-efficiency. Maintain accurate records of fleet activities, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance logs.

Vehicle Maintenance: The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules and inspections to reduce downtime and prolong vehicle life. Coordinate with internal maintenance staff or external service providers for vehicle repairs and servicing. Monitor and manage spare parts inventory and repair costs.

Compliance and Safety: The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to transportation and logistics. Monitor driver safety and behaviour using the fleet tracking software. Conduct regular vehicle inspections and ensure all vehicles are properly licensed and insured. Organize driver training programs and safety briefings.

Procurement and Budgeting:?The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Manage vehicle procurement, leasing, and disposal processes. Monitor and control fleet-related budgets, including fuel costs, maintenance expenses, insurance, and licensing fees. Negotiate with vendors for vehicle purchases, leases, and services.

Data Management and Reporting: The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Utilize fleet management software to track vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and driver behaviour. Generate and present reports on fleet status, cost analysis, and performance metrics. Recommend improvements based on data analysis.

Logistics: The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Monitor and coordinate logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, inventory control, and distribution. Liaise with suppliers, transport companies, and internal departments to resolve delivery issues. Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and order status. Analyse logistics data and provide reports to support operational decisions and identify areas for improvement. Assist with the development and implementation of logistics strategies and processes to optimize efficiency and reduce costs. Coordinate the return of goods, product recalls, and manage reverse logistics. Maintain and update logistics-related documentation including shipping instructions, customs paperwork, and delivery schedules. Support budgeting and forecasting for logistics-related expenses.

Team Leadership: The duties shall include but not be limited to:



Supervise a team of drivers, dispatchers, and/or maintenance staff. Recruit, train, and evaluate performance of fleet staff. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and efficiency.

Education and Experience



Matric or NQF equivalent. Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, fleet software, and GPS tracking systems. Understanding of regulatory requirements related to commercial vehicle operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet management software. Strong knowledge of logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Proven experience as a Fleet Manager or in a similar logistics/transportation role. Minimum of 3 years in a logistics, supply chain, or operations role. Ability to drive. Valid driver's license.
