Job Specification:Purpose of the Job:To ensure that the facilities and equipment of the organization are well-maintained, safe, and fully operational. The General Maintenance is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and troubleshooting to prevent breakdowns and ensure the longevity of equipment and property.Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in general maintenance, repair work, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, as well as maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Bilingual in English and Afrikaans
  • A valid driver's license may be required.

Carry out preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and other infrastructure. Maintain and repair doors, windows, walls, roofs, and other structural components.
  • Repairs: Diagnose and repair issues with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural systems. Fix leaks, replace faulty wiring, repair broken equipment, and address other maintenance problems as they arise. Ensure all repairs are completed promptly and meet safety standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on tools and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with vendors or specialists when necessary. Keep accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety checks and inspections to prevent accidents and injuries. Report any safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate authorities.
  • Grounds keeping: Maintain the grounds, including landscaping, lawn care, and snow removal. Ensure walkways, parking areas, and outdoor spaces are clean and well-maintained. Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf raking, snow shoveling, and gardening.
  • Building Systems Management: Monitor and manage building systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, and security systems. Adjust and calibrate systems to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency. Coordinate with service providers for specialized maintenance tasks.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to maintenance emergencies, such as power outages, flooding, or equipment failures. Take immediate action to mitigate damage and restore functionality. Ensure that emergency equipment, such as fire alarms and extinguishers, is in working order.
  • Inventory and Supplies Management: Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies and tools. Order necessary materials and equipment as needed to ensure uninterrupted maintenance activities. Track usage and manage budgets for maintenance supplies.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs. Prepare reports on maintenance status, issues, and completed tasks. Communicate maintenance needs and updates to management and other departments.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other departments and staff to coordinate maintenance activities. Communicate effectively with vendors, contractors, and service providers. Provide support and assistance to other team members as needed.
