The Waitrose Foundation (SA), based in Stellenbosch, seeks to appoint a General Manager. The Foundation aims to improve the living standards of agri-workers employed by Fresh Produce Growers supplying Waitrose UK from the Southern African regions. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the agricultural sector and the socio-economic dynamics of Southern Africa, coupled with a strong commitment to enhancing people's well-being in this sector. Essential skills include facilitation, liaison, and relationship management. The candidate should demonstrate high emotional intelligence, integrity, professionalism, a strong work ethic, and an outcome-driven approach. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will focus on ensuring the Foundation's sustainability and continuous improvement. Key duties include: *Providing strategic leadership *Managing stakeholder relationships with partners *Identifying and managing operational risks *Developing and maintaining systems to improve processes *Organising and managing the Foundations resources and funds *Developing and managing business and financial plans *Leading and motivating a results-driven team *Implementing effective management and communication practices *Creating and maintaining a comprehensive beneficiary management strategy *Integrating information and reporting as per the agreement between Waitrose (PTY) Ltd and the Waitrose Foundation (SA) *Performing all other duties necessary for the overall management of the Foundation. Essential qualifications, skills, and experience: Relevant degree, with a post graduate qualification being highly beneficial; Minimum of 10 years of general management experience, including human resources, project, and financial management; Minimum of 5 years of experience in socio-economic and socio-political development in South Africa (knowledge of rural development in agriculture is advantageous); Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in Afrikaans and English (understanding an indigenous language is advantageous); Drivers license and own reliable transport; Willingness to travel regularly to regions in South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
