Global civil engineering consultancy with great career opportunitiesOpportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects both locally and internationallyFriendly and flexible working environment across the businessThe RoleWe are seeking to engage an Experienced Geotechnical Engineer, with extensive experience in site investigation, to join our Geotechnical Team in Cape Town. In this role, youll be getting out on the field, conducting geotechnical site investigations, testing, data logging and preparing technical reports while collaborating with internal stakeholders across multiple disciplines including tunnels, roads, rail, dams and hydropower, supporting other streams in the delivery of high standard designs, verification and onsite supervision.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Conducting detailed designs for projects of reasonable complexity within tight timeframes.Assisting senior Engineers in analyzing information, producing designs, and computations.Communicating openly and regularly with team members and stakeholders.Liaising with other design disciplines to ensure effective design coordination.Producing documentation reports, proposals, and specifications to meet client requirements.Exercising initiative to ensure completion of quality tasks on time and within budget.Researching alternative solutions to meet client requirements.Assuming responsibility for the accuracy of calculations and contributing to the team's business plan.Applying a deeper understanding of engineering principles to solve complex problems.Identifying professional risks, statutory responsibilities, liabilities, and hazards.Writing functional specifications and design specifications.Supporting other streams in delivering high-standard designs, verification, and onsite supervision.Contributing to and participating in project planning to achieve objectives.The ideal candidate will:Hold a Tertiary Qualification in Engineering.Rock mechanics and foundation design experience is a benefitPossess a minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience, preferably within a consultancy.Demonstrate the ability to interpret and communicate information of a more complex nature.Have a client service orientation and project management skills.Be familiar with relevant Australian Standards and specifications.Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment.Be proficient in computer literacy and various computer programs.In return, SMEC offers you the benefits that come from working in a global multidisciplinary consultancy in an environment where your fresh ideas and enthusiasm will be welcomed and rewarded.Closing date 31/01/2024At Surbana Jurong, we put talent, hard work, teamwork and a fun workplace together to approach problems and solve them creatively and collaboratively.
