is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a group of companies, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. This role involves financial reporting, consolidation, budgeting, forecasting, and supporting senior management with financial insights to drive strategic decision-making. The Group Accountant ensures that financial processes run smoothly across all subsidiaries, maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and financial integrity.
Prepare and consolidate financial statements for the group, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Review and analyse financial reports from subsidiaries to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles.
2. Group Financial Consolidation
Oversee the consolidation of financial results across multiple entities within the group.
Eliminate intercompany transactions and balances to present a unified group financial position.
Ensure all reporting deadlines are met and provide financial insights to senior management.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in preparing the
annual budget
and financial forecasts for the group.
Monitor performance against budgets and analyse variances.
Provide recommendations for cost-saving initiatives and process improvements.
4. Statutory Compliance & Audit
Ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations and tax laws.
Liaise with external auditors to facilitate group audits, ensuring timely completion.
Prepare financial statements and reports required for statutory filings.
5. Taxation & Compliance
Manage corporate tax, VAT, and other tax-related matters
across the group.
Ensure accurate tax calculations, reporting, and timely submission of tax returns.
Work with tax consultants to optimise tax planning strategies.
6. Financial Controls & Risk Management
Implement and maintain
strong internal controls
to prevent financial misstatements and fraud.
Monitor financial risks and suggest mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with company financial policies and accounting standards.
7. Cash Flow Management & Treasury
Monitor and manage group cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity.
Oversee banking relationships and optimise financial structures to improve cash flow efficiency.
Develop strategies to minimise financial risk and maximise investment opportunities.
8. Management Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present financial reports, including profit & loss, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Provide financial insights and recommendations
Develop financial models to support business decision-making.
9. Intercompany Transactions & Reconciliations
Manage intercompany accounts and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy across entities.
Ensure proper documentation and approval processes for intercompany transactions.
10. Fixed Assets & Inventory Management
Maintain an accurate record of the
group's fixed assets and
depreciation schedules.
Ensure correct accounting treatment for asset acquisitions and disposals.
Oversee inventory valuations and stock reconciliations.
11. ERP & Finance Systems Management
Work with IT and finance teams to
optimise ERP systems
and ensure smooth financial reporting.
Implement improvements in financial reporting software and automation.
12. Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the key liaison between
subsidiary finance teams, auditors, tax authorities, banks, and other stakeholders.
Provide financial insights and updates to senior management and board members.
13. Continuous Improvement & Best Practices
Keep up to date with the latest financial regulations and industry trends.
Identify and implement best practices to improve financial efficiency and accuracy.
Support finance transformation initiatives and process automation.
Key Requirements:
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional qualification (CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA, CPA)
preferred.
Experience
Minimum of
5-7 years of experience
in financial reporting, group accounting, or audit.
Experience in a
corporate group structure or multinational organisation
is an advantage.
Strong knowledge of
IFRS/GAAP and tax regulations
.
Technical & Business Skills
Strong financial consolidation and reporting skills.
Proficiency in financial management systems (SAP, Oracle, SAGE, or similar ERP software).
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
