To lead the Engineering Unit, thereby ensuring efficient and cost effective provision and maintenance of Engineering infrastructure and services to ratepayers and residents of eThekwini in accordance with corporate strategy and policy.
Key Responsibility AreasProviding a road and minor Stormwater drainage design service and management of related contracts.
Directing the development, maintenance and upgrading of municipal infrastructure.
Directing the design, implementation, maintenance and monitoring coastal engineering, rivers, canalization and major stormwater drainage systems and managing the coastal strip and the sand-pumping scheme.
Developing public open spaces including verges and natural areas and providing landscape planning and design services to the City.
Providing an urban design and streetscape service including development of land.
Providing professional architectural guidance and services to the eThekwini Municipality.
Project management (technical audit, monitoring expenditure and reporting) of the total infrastructure budget for all capital projects for the entire Municipality.
Directing the Councils Expanded Public Works Programme and the expenditure of Municipal Infrastructure Grants.
Consults and negotiates with Trade Unions on all matters (excluding corporate conditions of service and remuneration).
Formulates strategic direction for the Engineering Unit by driving the strategic planning process.
Implements the strategy by ensuring that functions within the Unit are appropriately grouped.
Evaluating performance against approved objectives and standards set and against budgets.
Reports back to Committees on any relevant issues which may arise, on performance in terms of agreed plans and budgets on tenders awarded and seeks direction as required.

Essential RequirementsBachelor of Science (NQF Level 8) in Civil Engineering.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Engineer) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Valid motor vehicle driving license.
10 years management experience of which 7 years must be post professional registration.
