Meridian Wine Merchant, an influential presence in the wine industry, is looking for an energetic and achievement-oriented individual to become a part of our team as the Head of Business-to-Business Marketing, located in the Johannesburg area. Rooted in a storied history and devoted to excellence, we are focused on providing outstanding wine experiences for our clients and collaborators.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop and evaluate the Trade Marketing departmental strategy aligned with all departments to achieve portfolio and brand objectives.
  • Act as the conduit of trade marketing information flow between clients, customers and Meridian with regards to brand plans, strategy and new product development.
  • Determine and manage discretionary trade marketing budget and funding priorities.
  • Development of sales levers, leveraging associated standards by channel and brand.
  • Ensure the correct, current and customized content is created for all internal and external communication.
  • Manage design, innovation, quality and quantity of company and brand point of sale material.
  • Ensure client brand identity integrity is maintained in promotional and trade activities.
  • Develop customer brand and wine training and education programmes.
  • Assist sales operations with solutions to collect customer, category and brand related market research, competitive analysis and trade marketing audits to improve the effectiveness of trade marketing programs.
  • Support the innovation process by providing insight into customer needs, shopper behavior and POP drivers that effect price, positioning, distribution, visualization and promotion.
  • Develop quarterly trade marketing activity plan to implement Meridian sales strategy at a national, regional and investment plan level.
  • Develop brand and portfolio solutions to implement brand and sales strategy in the trade by way of sales levers.
  • Support planning process with activation plan at brand/regional/segment/type level.
  • Utilize data and analytical thinking to develop compelling plans (distribution, visibility and activation.
  • Identify new and existing channel, point of purchase and consumption opportunities to create pull.
  • Develop and manage omni-channel communication platforms to realize the B2B strategic objectives with effective and cohesive delivery of corporate and brand communication.
  • Develop internal wine culture and brand training and educational program.
  • Ensure media and public relations communication to maximize company and brand exposure opportunities.
  • Evaluate viable marketing opportunities and participation in trade and public events, sponsorships and partnerships for the benefit of the company and our clients.
  • Effective management of development and career path plans.
  • Adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of management and accountability.
  • Motivate, delegate and empower appropriately, enabling direct reports to take responsibility and display creativity and initiative.
  • Follow through to ensure that personal quality and productivity standards are consistently and accurately maintained.
  • Plan and priorities, demonstrating abilities to manage competing demands.
  • Demonstrate abilities to anticipate and manage change.
Qualifications and experience
  • Minimum: BCom degree in Marketing Management or related fields.
  • Minimum experience: 5 - 8 years Trade and/or Marketing experience and track record in sales and/or marketing department at national level.
  • Postgraduate in Marketing Management and Cape Wine Academy Certificate Course.
  • Previous experience in the Liquor industry in a senior managerial role.
