Role Purpose


The Head of Data will drive the strategic execution of the enterprise data strategy for the Momentum Group. This role will be pivotal in establishing and leading the data strategy, governance, and architecture to ensure the organization harnesses the full potential of its data assets. The Head of Data will collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to build a robust digital data technology platform that supports data-driven decision-making and innovation including the formation of data management practices that mature the overall position of the group enterprise data landscape to take material advantage of data in respect of digital transformation (monetize data products, shift revenue etc.) and technology transformation (readiness for AI, efficient technology etc.).



Requirements



Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in data management, data architecture, data strategy, or related roles. Proven experience in leading data initiatives and managing data teams.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of data architecture, data governance, data analytics, and data warehousing. Proficiency with data management tools, databases, and analytics platforms.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams. Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to think strategically and analytically. Proficient in translating business requirements into data solutions.
Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of data privacy regulations and industry standards, such as GDPR, POPIA etc. Knowledge of Insurance and Financial Services Regulation advantageous e.g. PPR, FAIS, etc.
Innovation: A track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement within data management and analytics.




Duties & Responsibilities



Strategic Data Leadership: Develop and execute the enterprise data strategy, ensuring alignment with the overall business goals and objectives. Act as the thought leader in data management and analytics, bringing best practices and innovative solutions to the organization.
Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance. Oversee data quality initiatives and lead data stewardship efforts.
Metadata Management and Data Quality: Define and measure industry best practice metadata management and data quality standards
Data Architecture: Design and implement scalable and sustainable data architectures that support business needs. Ensure the integration of disparate data sources into a cohesive and accessible data ecosystem.
Data Analytics and Insights: Promote a data-driven culture by facilitating advanced analytics and business intelligence initiatives. Enable stakeholders to derive actionable insights from data through effective reporting and visualization tools.
Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing data team, providing mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business units, IT, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions that drive business value. Serve as the primary point of contact for all data-related initiatives.
Data Privacy and Security: Ensure that data privacy and security measures are in place and adhered to, in compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and trends. Continuously seek opportunities to enhance data capabilities and drive innovation within the organization.
