The Head of Faculty (HoF) for Humanities is a senior academic leader responsible for the strategic and operational management of the faculty. This role ensures that all programmes are aligned with the institution's vision and comply with national regulatory requirements such as those set by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The HoF leads academic innovation, quality assurance, research, and governance initiatives within the faculty.

Requirements


Doctoral degree in a relevant field such as Disaster & Safety Management, Criminal Justice, Policing, or Law.
Minimum 3 years in academic leadership, ideally within higher education.
Proven experience in curriculum development, programme management, and quality assurance.
Demonstrated research and academic leadership credentials.
Strong organizational and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities


Faculty Management


Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the Humanities faculty.
Lead recruitment, development, and performance management of academic staff.
Ensure academic programmes align with institutional goals and promote teaching excellence.
Supervise Programme Coordinators, Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Coordinators, and Administrators.

Academic Governance and Compliance


Ensure compliance with CHE, DHET, and SAQA requirements.
Participate in academic governance structures and contribute to policy development.
Lead programme accreditation and reaccreditation processes.
Prepare regulatory reports and documentation as required.

Research and Scholarship


Promote a research-driven environment.
Support academic staff in achieving research output goals and obtaining research funding.
Encourage participation in academic conferences and scholarly activities.

Programme Development and Quality Assurance


Guide the design, implementation, and review of academic programmes.
Oversee quality improvement initiatives based on student and stakeholder feedback.
Collaborate with the Quality Assurance Directorate to ensure compliance with standards.

Examination and Assessment Oversight


Uphold examination integrity and adherence to assessment policies.
Ensure secure and effective management of assessments and results.
Support Programme Coordinators in managing the assessment lifecycle.

Independent Contractor Management


Manage contractual obligations and performance of Independent Contractors.
Ensure accurate documentation and timely processing of claims.

Strategic Planning and Administration


Contribute to institutional strategic planning, with a focus on faculty-specific goals.
Manage budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation.
Implement operational strategies to support faculty growth and sustainability.

Student Support and Engagement


Enhance the student experience through academic and extracurricular support.
Address academic concerns and resolve student complaints.
Encourage student participation in research and academic forums.

Governance and Ad Hoc Leadership


Serve on institutional committees such as Senate and Teaching and Learning Committee.
Lead strategic projects and internal audits as required.
Ensure ongoing compliance with academic policies and procedures.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R30000,00 - R40000,00 per month
