Location: Live-in position at a Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park. Accommodation and meals on site provided.
Work Cycle: 6 weeks on / 2 weeks offWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced HR Manager to join our team at a prestigious Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park. This live-in position offers a unique opportunity to work in a stunning natural environment while managing all aspects of human resources for the lodge. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR management, excellent communication skills, and a passion for fostering a positive work environment.Key Responsibilities:
HR Management:

  • Meet with the General Manager as required to update on property operations.
  • Attend meetings with the HR team as required.
  • Maintain and ensure the goodwill of the brand at the property level.
  • Act as a key ambassador of the brand and its values.
  • Uphold and maintain the developed set of property standards.
  • Ensure management personnel meet the brand's standards, ensuring a streamlined and effective management structure.
  • Conduct effective monthly departmental meetings, take accurate minutes, and complete follow-ups.
  • Hold monthly one-on-one meetings with all managers and Heads of Departments (HODs).
  • Be readily available to address staff queries and complaints constructively.
  • Drive and monitor correct processes relating to counseling, disciplinary/grievance procedures, and annual wage negotiations.
  • Ensure accurate recording and documentation of leave processes.
  • Monitor and report on overtime processes.
  • Compile, maintain, and audit all HR administrative documentation.
  • Drive and run induction and exit processes according to company and property standards.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety and Security procedures, including handling injuries on duty and Workmens Compensation.
  • Serve as Secretary for the Employment Equity Committee, responsible for annual skills submission and execution of annual training plans.
  • Oversee recruitment and interviewing processes, ensuring adherence to guidelines and obtaining GM approval for vacancies.
  • Manage payroll processes.
Development and Staff Management:
  • Identify and develop individuals with potential for higher positions within the property and the greater group.
  • Implement training and facilitate the use of appointed internal and external trainers.
  • Assist in facilitating cross-property training for employees.
  • Provide effective leadership through professional management and encouragement of subordinates.
  • Drive and monitor the implementation and execution of Performance Management and Succession Planning processes.
  • Conduct regular, meaningful performance appraisals and ensure follow-up on agreed action and developmental plans.
  • Monitor and ensure accurate recording and reporting of monthly training plans.
  • Facilitate short training sessions and evaluate training material and methodology.
  • Assist in developing training aids such as departmental operations manuals, orientation checklists, and handbooks.
  • Drive, monitor, track, and record the Buddy Program.
  • Present training programs using recognized techniques and tools.
  • Facilitate learning through various delivery methods, including classroom instruction, virtual training, and on-the-job coaching.
  • Assist in designing and applying assessment tools to measure training effectiveness.
  • Handle logistics for on-site training activities and manage in-house training facilities and equipment.
  • Coordinate off-site training activities for employees.
Succession Planning:
  • Assess training needs for new and existing employees.
  • Identify internal and external training programs to address competency gaps.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders regarding employee training needs.
  • Inform management and employees about training options.
  • Map out personal development and training plans for individual employees.
  • Ensure maintenance of employee training records.
Staff Wellness and Events:
  • Drive and run all staff wellness programs and events.
  • Act as the main contact for medical visits, coordinating consultations and follow-ups.
  • Drive wellness programs related to weight control, exercise plans, dietary advice, and mental health awareness.
  • Plan, organize, and run monthly staff social initiatives and annual staff events.
  • Support the staff committee in seeking continuous improvements.
Community:
  • Establish and support community partnerships, ensuring the property is consistently presented positively to relevant stakeholders.
Requirements, Qualifications, and Skills:
  • 5 years' experience in a senior HR Management position.
  • Strong knowledge of local legislation and labor law.
  • Sound knowledge of HR and Training Administration processes and procedures.
  • Experience with instruction or training.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity and motivational techniques.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with SAGE 300 People and ATS for recruitment (beneficial).
  • Knowledge and experience with disciplinary procedures and the CCMA.
  • Understanding and experience working with Labor Unions.
