We are seeking a dedicated HSE Compliance Officer to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while fostering a strong safety culture within our organization.
Some Responsibilities may include:
HSE Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., Occupational Health & Safety Act, Environmental Management Act, etc.).
Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and best practices in line with legal and corporate requirements.
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and update policies accordingly.
Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors to ensure adherence to statutory requirements.
Health & Safety Management
Conduct HSE risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify non-compliance and areas for improvement.
Ensure effective incident management, including reporting, investigation, and corrective action implementation.
Promote a safety culture through awareness campaigns, induction, and training sessions.
Ensure the adequacy of emergency preparedness and response plans.
Injury on Duty (IOD) & Medical Surveillance Oversight
Oversee IOD reporting, investigation, and claims management processes.
Ensure compliance with medical surveillance requirements, including employee health monitoring and fitness-for-duty assessments.
Work closely with HR and Occupational Health practitioners to ensure employee well-being.
HSE Administration & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of HSE inspections, incidents, audits, and compliance reports.
Prepare and present HSE compliance reports to senior management.
Manage documentation and record-keeping in line with POPIA and other applicable legislation.
Training & Capacity Building
Provide HSE training, coaching, and support to employees and management.
Continuous Improvement & ESG Alignment
Identify opportunities to enhance HSE compliance, efficiency, and sustainability.
Align HSE strategies with broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.
Drive initiatives for improving workplace safety and environmental responsibility.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an HSE compliance role, preferably in a corporate or industrial environment.
Experience in IOD case management and medical surveillance compliance.
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Compliance, or a related field.
Professional certification in HSE compliance (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, ISO 45001, or similar) is advantageous.
Familiarity with ESG principles and reporting requirements.
Willingness to travel to different sites as required.
Valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle.
Strong knowledge of HSE legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and training abilities.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficiency in HSE compliance systems and reporting tools.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
