Job Description


Join Lactalis at our Bonnievale Plant in the Quality department with main responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary working environment by ensuring compliance with hygiene, safety, and health standards. The role involves monitoring, inspecting, and promoting cleanliness and safety in the food production, environments. Hygienist also play a key role in educating staff on proper hygiene practices and contributing to efforts to prevent illness, contamination, and accidents. Adherence to all Food Safety, General Safety & Health policies, procedures and legislation. Be fluent in English and be computer literate with sound knowledge in excel.Required Skills

  • NQF 7 (Degree/ Btech/advanced diploma)
  • BSC/Btech microbiology, food/bio technology/Chemistry/Quality management or relevant qualification
  • Additional certifications (e.g., HACCP, GMP/PRP, FSSC 2200) will be an advantage
  • Computer literate xe2x80x93 Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • [2-3] years of experience in a hygiene or food safety role, particularly in manufacturing, healthcare, or food production environments.
  • Experience with conducting hygiene audits and inspections
  • In-depth knowledge of pathogens/microorganisms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Be able to think and operate independently and make decisions.
  • Willing to work shifts, long hours, weekends, public holidays and overtime.
  • Willing to perform Ad hoc tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of hygiene regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to identify risks and suggest corrective actions for hygiene and safety issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for training staff and working with other departments.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage schedules and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to enforce hygiene standards.
  • [2-3] years of experience in a hygiene or food safety role, particularly in manufacturing, healthcare, or food production environments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform regular inspections of the facility to ensure cleanliness and proper sanitation procedures are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with industry hygiene standards, including local and international regulations.
  • Develop and implement hygiene protocols and best practices based on regulations and standards.
  • Educate employees on proper hygiene practices, such as hand washing, use of protective gear, and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Conduct workshops or training sessions on food safety, contamination prevention, and cleanliness procedures.
  • Promote a culture of hygiene awareness among staff to reduce the risk of contamination and illness.
  • Monitor hygiene-related incidents and report any hygiene-related risks or issues to management.
  • Report on the results of audits and inspections, highlighting areas that need improvement.
  • Result analysis and interpretation of microbial and other testing as needed to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the environment.
  • Supervise the cleanliness and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and production areas to ensure hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Stay informed about new hygiene standards, techniques, and technologies to improve hygiene practices within the workplace.
  • Drafting and communicating fumigation and cleaning activities
  • Perform the validation of cleaning methods and reagents when required.
  • Conduct investigations and ensure ongoing problem solving for all cleaning matters
  • Coordinate and supervise specialized cleaning within the factory
  • Ensure that all SOPxe2x80x99s and schedules in relation to hygiene and cleaning are up to date
  • Conduct cleaning/sanitization audits as and when required and ensure that audit reports are submitted to Management
  • Adhere to quality and food safety standards as stated in SOPxe2x80x99s.
  • Must make sure that the equipment used in production is clean and sanitize to prevent microbial contamination
  • Participate in projects and problem-solving initiatives as and when required
