Job Description

SUMMARY:

Cumulus Insulation is looking to employ a Production Manager for its Expanded Polystyrene shape-moulding factory located in Parow, Cape Town.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing manufacturing processes, implementing production schedules, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, managing inventory and supplies, supervising staff, and collaborating with other departments.

Continuous Improvement

Suggest process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and reduce operational costs.

Assess manufacturing efficiencies to identify and recommend mechanisms to enhance outputs and reduce waste. Comprehensive scrap management, with identification of root causes, reduction of scrap and maintenance/enhancements to machinery and processes to reduce scrap. Comprehensive product weight management to identify products where excess raw material is utilised and management to realign production standards to enhance efficiencies. Stay updated with advancements in systems and tools relevant to the company.

Quality Assurance and Compliance with Standards

Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs and maintenance activities for auditing and compliance. Follow safety protocols and procedures, especially those specific to our manufacturing environment (e.g. pressure vessels, boilers, flammable materials). Conduct risk assessments before commencing any work and implement mitigation measures.

Documentation and Reporting

Prepare detailed maintenance logs, failure reports and recommendations for further actions. Ensure that work is properly documented and submitted in line with company requirements. Provide detailed daily feedback reports on activities and initiatives. Maintain detailed registers of projects and report on progress and completion of specific projects.

Requirements

A Diploma or higher qualification in a business or engineering field

Proven experience of at least 5 years in a manufacturing or production management.

Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage teams effectively

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to diagnose problems and develop effective solutions

Experience with production planning and scheduling, as well as maintaining inventory and quality control

Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance requirements in a manufacturing environment

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Excellent time-management and organizational skills

Past experience with expanded polystyrene or other thermoplastics is a major advantage
