AW01/169/0724Kindly note that only South African citizens from the designated groups will be considered for the position.The Department of Agronomy is offering an internship opportunity for unemployed graduates to gain work experience for 12 months.The internship will offer multiple pathways for learning, including:Taking ownership of technical aspects of agronomic trials to develop independent thinking and problem-solving. Since the intern will have limited experience at first, an experienced technical officer and researcher will be supporting them to facilitate gradual learning and a gradual increase of responsibilities;Developing agriculture-specific technical skills and general soft skills which will prepare a well-rounded agronomist for industry. Skills development areas will include project management skills, time management, applied learning, social and networking skills, self-control and self-motivation, communication skills, as well as problem-solving and higher-order thinking;Experience in various areas of the country will be gained by the exposure to multiple projects and crops throughout South Africa, including the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, North-West, Limpopo, Free State and Northern Cape province. This experience will equip the intern with the essential skills to work as an agronomist throughout the country;Exposure to industry through engagement at farmers days, symposia and workshops, including presenting preliminary research findings at farmers days and symposia.Requirements:BSc, BSc(Agric) or BAgric degree in Agronomy, or similar;Only South African citizens are eligible to apply;A valid Code B drivers licence;Willingness to travel during the production season.
