Job SummaryINVESTMENT ANALYST (Venture Capital) - Newlands | Claremont, Cape TownCompetitive Package on Offer!Our Client, a Leading Venture Capital firm currently in search of a highly creative, resourceful and solutions driven Investment Analyst who is passionate about entrepreneurship, technology innovation, and early-stage investing.You will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of early-stage startups and emerging technology companies in South Africa!The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities across a diverse range of industries and sectorsYou will work closely with the investment team to conduct financial analysis, develop financial models, conduct due diligence, analyse market trends and support portfolio management activities.The Investment Analyst will be expected to contribute to the fund's investment decision-making process and participate in discussion forums, ensure the accuracy and integrity of investment valuations, and support the achievement of financial objectives for the fund and its investors.Key Responsibilities include:

  • Deal Screening:
- Screen and review incoming investment proposals, pitch decks, and business plans to assess alignment with fund investment criteria and objectives- Prepare preliminary investment memos for review and discussion by the investment committee.
  • Due Diligence:
- Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investment targets, including market analysis, competitive landscape assessment, financial modelling and risk evaluation- Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis to assess the viability, scalability, and growth potential of target companies, as well as the strength of their management teams and technology platforms
  • Investment Analysis and Decision-Making:
- Prepare investment memos, investment theses, and presentation materials for review and discussion by the investment committee- Assist in the formulation of investment recommendations and decisions based on rigorous analysis, strategic alignment, and risk-return considerations
  • ESG Integration and Reporting:
- Gather and analyse ESG data and metrics from portfolio companies and potential investment targets to assess their ESG performance and risks- Evaluate the materiality of ESG factors to investment performance and identify potential risks and opportunities associated with environmental, social, and governance issues- Incorporate ESG considerations into the due diligence process for potential investments, including reviewing ESG policies, practices, and performance metrics- Prepare an annual ESG report for presentation to management and investors
  • Portfolio Management Support:
- Support portfolio company monitoring and management activities, including financial performance tracking and performance reporting- Monitor the fulfilment of post-closing undertakings and other obligations that portfolio companies have to the Fund
  • Market Research and Trend Analysis:
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and market developments to identify investment opportunities and inform investment strategies- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to assess market positioning, differentiation, and potential disruptors within target sectors
  • Valuation Analysis:
- Apply appropriate valuation methodologies, such as discounted cash flow, comparable company analysis and precedent transactions to determine the fair value of investments
  • Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare regular reports, presentations, and updates for internal stakeholders and investors on investment activities, portfolio performance and market trends- Communicate investment recommendations, findings, and insights effectively to senior managementQualifications and experience required:
  • CA / CFA / MBA with Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity or venture capital post articles
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills, with proficiency in Excel and financial valuation techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct market research, industry analysis, and due diligence on investment opportunities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with tight deadlines and multiple priorities
