Job Description


Perform general and related tasks for the programmes and laboratories for the department ranging from assisting with preparation of lab equipment, classes and practical related work as well minor repairs, maintenance and operations of such related equipment and other IT related duties. The IT duties include ensuring the currency of operating systems and security software in line with CPUT policies as well as the installation of software required by the department. Duties will also include providing end user computing support to departmental staff as well as students as required from time to time.Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceMinimum Requirements:

  • A National Diploma/ Diploma in Information Technology or related qualification.
  • At least two (2) years' experience in an IT environment within a tertiary education environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the latest technology and developments in the field of Industrial & Systems Engineering.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Assisting with the coordinator for all academic activities relating to, but not limited to: Manage laboratory software, test materials and hardware to ensure security.
  • Assist with laying out of class material, setting up of equipment and other general preparations for classes/ instructions/ practicals including industry 4.0 based technologies
  • Keeping all departmental software up to date
  • Liaison with CTS to ensure that CPUT policies are adhered to and that software and hardware is available and accessible to all staff and students
  • Support the HOD with hardware and software requirements, including budgeting (capex and opex)
  • Administration Storekeeping Housekeeping
  • Develop, application and maintenance of laboratory procedures
  • General minor maintenance

  • Language proficiency: institutional language policy shall apply
  • Sound inter-personal skills
  • Computer literacy, e.g. Microsoft Office suite
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Good planning & organizational ability
