Job Description

Job Overview:

The Joinery/woodwork Workshop manager will oversee the daily operations of LovettCo's manufacturing facility. This includes managing the production of both standard joinery and high-end luxury custom pieces. The role will require implementing and optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring high-quality standards, maintaining safety and organization in the workshop, and managing a team of skilled, semi-skilled joiners and apprentices. The Workshop manager will report directly to the Operations manager and will work closely with the design team to ensure seamless project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Management:

Supervise and coordinate the preparation, assembly, and finishing of luxury joinery and bespoke items. Implement efficient manufacturing processes to maximise productivity while maintaining exceptional craftsmanship. Work closely with designers to ensure the smooth translation of designs into high-quality finished products. Monitor progress on production timelines, ensuring that deadlines are met without compromising on quality. Ensure the correct handling, storage, and use of materials, reducing waste and optimising resource use.
Team Leadership & Development:

Lead, mentor, and train a team of joiners (senior and junior), on best practices for luxury joinery manufacturing. Allocate tasks based on team members' skills, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment. Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and guide the team to continually improve skills and efficiency. Manage the workflow in the workshop, ensuring work is assigned and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Quality Control:

Ensure all work meets the highest standards of quality, particularly in the production of luxury, bespoke pieces. Inspect work regularly to ensure that it adheres to design specifications, safety standards, and client expectations. Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues during production and assembly phases. Implement a process for continuous improvement in manufacturing techniques and product quality.
Health & Safety Compliance:

Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations. Ensure that all team members are properly trained in the safe use of tools, equipment, and machinery. Conduct regular safety audits and resolve any potential hazards promptly.
Workshop and Equipment Management:

Ensure the workshop is kept clean, organized, and well-maintained always. Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of tools and machinery, reporting any issues or damage to the Operations Manager. Manage inventory levels of materials and tools, ensuring that stock levels are adequate for upcoming projects.
Reporting & Communication:

Regularly report on production progress, timelines, materials usage, and any challenges to senior management. Maintain clear communication with the design and project management teams to ensure alignment between design and manufacturing.
Requirements:

Experience and Skills:

Minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a joinery or luxury carpentry environment. Strong knowledge of luxury joinery techniques, bespoke manufacturing, and high-end finishing standards. Proven experience in managing and leading a team of carpenters. Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Proficient in the use of both hand and power tools, with a deep understanding of advanced joinery techniques. Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and designs. Strong administrative skills (paper work etc...)

Preferred Qualifications:

Senior Certificate (Matric). Valid driver's license.
