Job Description


A Leading Fashion Retail Supplier is seeking a talented Junior Fashion Designer to join their dynamic Durban-based team.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Trend research for merchandisers buying trip.
  • Photographing & numbering of overseas samples.
  • Assisting with trend presentation preparation for presenting to customer.
  • Keeping up to date with trends for new product developments and innovative product updates in alignment with customer brands and existing programs.
  • Working on buyers briefs and design requirements.
  • Loading buyer briefs onto system (swift).
  • Creating comprehensive tech packs including CAD, TD, artworks, etc.
  • Send a copy of the original brief with original sample (if needed) along with colour swatches for lab dipping to supplier.
  • Briefing suppliers/factories over email on design and sample requirements, as well as additional packaging and other information pertaining to each style.
  • Checking factory samples and lab dips against the brief (final sign off by Merchandiser).
  • Communication between customer & supplier on design/brief/colour/artwork.
  • Cad overview to be emailed to factories confirming they have received all the briefs
  • Weekly Cad overview updates by style/program/customer
  • Prepare copies of updated customer cad overviews for each customer to accompany customer production delivery reports (from Coordinator) - spiral bound.
  • Updating packaging booklets every season.
  • Keeping track and ensuring returning of overseas samples not used by customers.
  • Filing of overseas samples/showing samples/meeting samples.
  • End of season rails clean out ie: fit samples, duplicate samples, old rail samples - team effort.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Degree or diploma in fashion design.
  • 1-2 years working experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator.
  • Competent in producing CADs and TDs on illustrator.
  • Ability to take direction and produce accurate and detailed work.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Works well in a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Drive and motivation to learn and grow.
  • Able to adapt and be flexible with tasks.
  • Must have a Design Portfolio available to view.
