Job Description


Junior SHE OfficerWe have an exciting new opportunity for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our client's team in Brakpan, Gauteng as a Junior SHE Officer in the rubber manufacturing industry.The successful candidate will be responsible for all occupational health and safety matters in the company. The candidate will interact with SHE reps and employees as well as TES, hospital and ambulance staff.Duties & Responsibilities:OHS Legal Requirements

  • Ensure all required legal appointments relevant to this Company are done and renewed as necessitated by expiry dates and terminations of service
  • In conjunction with HODs arrange and execute base line risk assessments every two years. Conduct issue- and continuous based risk assessments within the Company as necessary
  • Ensure all legally required surveys on Heat, Noise, ventilation, light and dust are conducted within the legal intervals
  • Organize for the election and appointment of H & S committee members
  • Schedule and attend all OHS meetings, draft agendas, distribute minutes and maintain filed copies of minutes
  • Ensure that all OHS training is done and maintained as per the requirements of the Act (forklift, first aid, firefighters, overhead crane, OHS Reps, Management Responsibilities, etc)
  • Present induction and in-house OHS training as required
  • Assist HODs and the SHEQ Manager with the investigation and required reports of all OHS incidents as necessary
  • Regularly check for any amendments to the OHS Act and regulations
  • Update OHS standards as amendments to the OHS Act and regulations are promulgated and notify all HODs of amendments
  • Ensure latest summaries of OHS Act and regulations, OHS Policy and any other OHS information are displayed on all notice boards
OHS Management System
  • Ensure all new employees as well as contractors attend OHS induction
  • Arrange for OHS training as necessary based on incidents, inspection and audit results
  • Responsible to promote OHS awareness within the Company through education DVD's, display charts, OHS posters, workshops and 'Toolbox Talk' topics
  • Ensure results of incident investigations are distributed to all HODs for discussion
  • Schedule and conduct annual evacuation drills
  • Responsible for contractor control on site in accordance with Company's OHS Standards
  • Manage implementation plan for OHSAS 18001: 2007
OHS Monitoring
  • Conduct internal audits, review findings and in conjunction with HODs take corrective action within the agreed target dates
  • Check that formal Toolbox talks are executed by Departments at least weekly
  • Do daily informal inspections across the Company to check for unsafe actions and conditions and instruct HODs to take immediate corrective action
  • Schedule and conduct weekly and monthly inspections with the aid of appointed OHS Reps, sharing these finding with the HOD's
  • Check that PPE and warning notices are prominently displayed in high-risk areas e.g. noise, dust, dangerous equipment, etc
OHS Administration
  • Maintain inspection and audit records, distribute findings to HODs and monitor corrective action
  • Maintain statistics for annual board meetings on IOD's, types of incidents registered, medically boarded employees, people with disability, etc
  • Analyse OHS statistics and compile a quarterly report including suggested preventative measures and re-evaluation of risk assessments
  • Responsible for the procurement, quality control and issue of PPE equipment to the relevant Departments
  • Maintain all Workman Compensation registries
  • Maintain HIRA records
  • Assist Installations with compiling the required OHS documents required by Mining customers Health and Safety Legal Obligations: Visitors, Contractors and TES Employees
  • Any person on the Company's premises is obligated to fully comply with the OHSA Act and all its regulations relevant to this Company
  • All activities mentioned in this JD will apply equally to all TES employees. You are responsible in conjunction with the TES representative to ensure their compliance as the law holds us jointly and individually responsible for their wellbeing while on Company premises. SHEQ
  • Comply fully with Section 14 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act: General duties of employees at work
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you are familiar with the above section. A copy can be requested from the OHS Manager. Copies of the act are also available electronically on the Company's home page. Summaries of the act are displayed throughout all departments in the Company
  • You are further required to comply with all requirements of the Company's quality management system applicable to your position and activities
Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of the OHS Act and regulations as amended
  • 3 years of OHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • OHSAS 18001 training
