Job Description

Star Merchant has an exciting opportunity available for a Junior Warehouse Picker to be based in Umhlanga, Durban. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the process of picking general stock accurately as per the picking slip. Responsible for updating bin cards correctly according to stock received and stock picked to ensure minimum variances. Responsible for packing stock accurately. Ensure achievement of company's strategic objectives, goal plans and targets. Comply with all policies and procedures and strict adherence to internal controls. Ensure daily, weekly and monthly reporting is done accurately and timeously and contains appropriate content to enable effective decision making.



Minimum requirements:






At least one year of experience in warehouse picking and order fulfillment. Basic numerical skills with the ability to perform calculations accurately. Knowledge of cost-effective packaging techniques to optimize material usage.


Advantageous:





Basic computer literacy with the ability to navigate essential systems and software.


Responsibilities:






Financial Metrics/Operational Duties



Stock Management: Ensure that stock is packed in the correct designated areas once items are received and GRV'd (Goods Received Voucher) into Pastel Evolution. Verify that items match those listed on the GRV. Stock Picking: Accurately pick stock according to the picking slip request, ensuring both the quantity and nature of the goods are correct. Damaged Stock: Do not pick damaged stock. Mark any damaged items accordingly and immediately notify the Warehouse Supervisor. Pick and Pack: Properly pick and pack stock according to the specifications on the Picking Slip. Verification: When working in the dispatch area, verify that your fellow assistants have picked the correct items and quantities by performing a second check. Stock Card Updates: Accurately updated Stock Cards based on the quantity of items received or issued. Ensure this is done in a timely, neat, and legible manner. Shortage Reporting: Immediately notify the Warehouse Supervisor of any stock shortages or discrepancies. Receiving Stock: When assisting with stock receiving, ensure the quality, quantity, and documentation from suppliers are correct. Stock Counting: Assist with weekly stock counts, ensuring accuracy and timely completion. Monthly Stock Verification: Help with verifying monthly stock takes, ensuring they are accurate and completed on time. Stock Accuracy: Ensure all stock being received or dispatched is accurate, aiming for zero variances. Workplace Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness in the warehouse and work areas, ensure that all aisles are neat, and products packed neatly on the shelves.


People Management



Performance Tracking: Take responsibility for tracking your performance. Schedule regular performance review meetings with the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager.

Compliance, risk and quality

Company Policies: Ensure 100% compliance with all company policies and procedures. Health and Safety: Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations at all times. Legal Compliance: Maintain 100% compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing warehouse operations. Record Keeping: Ensure that all work, templates, and related documents are saved logically and accurately. Maintain clear financial records for each year to ensure readiness for inquiries, investigations, or audits.


Growth and New Markets/Products



Project Assistance: Provide support for various projects as directed by management. Goal Adherence: Follow measures and steps outlined to achieve the company's short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals.

Attention to Detail - Ability to work accurately and efficiently, ensuring all tasks are completed with precision. Computer Skills - Basic proficiency in using relevant software and systems to support daily operations. Time Management - Effectively prioritizing tasks and managing workload to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
