The Head of Department ( HOD) provides academic leadership to the Department and as such in accountable for the coordination, review and development of all programmes in the department leveraging departmental lecturer capacity to assure quality, relevant curricular delivery and student support. As a campus based senior academic, the HOD also teaches to exit levels while being responsible for departmental operations and administration.


Qualifications:
BA Hons degree in performing arts (or NQF8 qualification in related discipline)
Masters degree preferred
Qualification in Higher Education or Education Management advantageous (E.g. Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education)

Duties and Responsibilities:
Lecturing
Teaching Diploma applied photography and visual communications at third year/exit level
Curriculum – implement and review curriculum with campus
Administration
Student consultation/progress tracking
Programme coordination which includes operations
The programme is effectively coordinate in order to facilitate the attainment of its intended purposes and outcomes
The academic is identified as a programme coordinator and operations within the framework of an agreed -upon mandate and defined procedures and responsibilities
Staff training and evaluation
Self-development and industry research
 
Characteristics/Skills:
Experienced in outcomes based education
Learner centred and hands-on teacher
Experience in setting of assessments
Solution oriented
