The Head of Department – HET is responsible for full programme management for the portfolio of programmes in the Department. This means accountability for programme development and curriculum reviews, assessment alignment and development, module material updates and prescribed textbook lists. THE HOF is expected to ensure academic integrity and regulatory compliance of programmes and assessments offered by the respective sites, and assure all programmes, programme factsheets and programme curriculum structures and assessments are aligned in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Educational Requirements:
Post Graduate qualification in cognate field. Masters is preferred
5 years’ experience in higher education is required and experience in programme management preferred
Advantageous: familiar with formal assessment and moderation practices, design and development and programme structuring
Excellent computer literacy essential
MS Office
Duties & Responsibilities:
Programme Management, Development, and review
Identify module leaders and programme managers
Update module materials annually, collect module and programme feedback annually
Represent department on Faculty boards
Ensure contrastive alignment of assessments to learning outcomes of all programmes and short courses
Development of programme documents
Coordinate department programme PIPO
Work integrated learning/workplace (EL) based learning for each programme
Develop experiential learning material related to each programme or amend each programme to include credit bearing WIL module
Facilitation of training on EL to EL coordinators at campus level
Student recruitment, selection, placement, RPL and CAT
Provide academic leadership through training of sales teams on programmes and admission criteria
Teaching and learning
Ensure teaching and learning strategy is reflected in module materials so student engagement and support learning is promoted in all our programme materials
Academic staff capacity
Provide guidelines on minimum qualifications are required per programme and module to meet the one up qualification regulatory requirement
Ensure sites are capacitated with qualified academic staff as per the HET/TVET requirements
Support Dean of Academic Operations and T& L Manager with academic development workshops for capacity building
Institutional planning, resource allocation and governance
Stakeholder surveys on the quality of provision
Benchmarking of standards
