Our client is seeking a skilled Imports Manager with a strong background in importing apparel from China. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the importation process to ensure that goods are sourced efficiently and cost-effectively while complying with all regulatory requirements. This role is crucial to ensuring that the company continues to source high-quality apparel efficiently and cost-effectively. Minimum Requirements:
Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an import management role, specifically dealing with apparel from China
Proven experience in managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts
Strong understanding of South African import regulations and customs procedures
Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Familiarity with inventory management systems and import documentation processes
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Strong analytical skills to assess and mitigate risks
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure all imported goods comply with South African laws and regulations, including customs documentation, import licenses, and tariffs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers in China.
Negotiate favorable terms, prices, and contracts with overseas vendors.
Manage the logistics of importing goods, including selecting shipping methods, arranging transportation, and tracking shipments for timely delivery.
Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstocking.
Forecast demand and coordinate with suppliers to maintain optimal stock levels.
Monitor and manage import-related costs, including shipping fees, customs duties, and taxes.
Ensure that imported products meet quality standards.
Address and resolve any quality issues with suppliers.
Prepare and manage all import-related documentation, including customs declarations, invoices, and bills of lading.
Identify and mitigate risks related to international trade, such as currency fluctuations and supply chain disruptions.
Liaise effectively with suppliers, customs authorities, freight forwarders, and internal teams to coordinate import activities.
Maintain accurate records of all import transactions for compliance and reporting purposes.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in the importation process.
