SASA- Laboratory Analyst

The South African Sugar Association's (SASA) has a permanent vacancy for a Laboratory Analyst, based at Eston, KwaZulu-Natal.

The Cane Testing Service (CTS), a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA), provides a specialist service to determine the quality of individual grower cane deliveries to the mill for cane payment purposes. This analytical chemistry service assesses the recoverable value content in cane delivered to the mill by growers, providing a neutral and objective basis on which to calculate recoverable value payment by miller to grower.

We have an excellent contract opportunity for someone with two years of relevant experience in a similar environment that includes supervisory responsibilities.

The position is at the CTS laboratory at the Eston Sugar Mill. Reporting to a Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Analyst is accountable for the routine analysis of sugar cane samples. Supervision of shift personnel will also form a key performance area.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

• A Bachelor of Science Degree/B Tech Degree in Analytical Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Quality Assurance

Skills, Knowledge, and Qualities:

• Supervising a shift of +/- 6 employees
• Ensuring adherence to official cane testing methods
• Analysing and reporting using a laboratory information management system
• Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and calibration of laboratory instruments
• Adherence to health and safety standards
• Administration, ranging from the recording of customer queries to employee time and attendance

You will bring to the role:

• A proven track record as an analyst and supervisor in a plant environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office.

• Shift work and overtime are compulsory. A shift allowance will be paid for all shifts worked
• You will need to pass a pre-employment medical examination in line with the inherent requirements of the job
