The Laboratory Technician will support the academic activities in Biotechnology Programme.Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Matric plus 3 years qualification in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Biotechnology or equivalent
At least two years' experience of working as a technical assistant/lab technician in Biotechnology or related field.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Preparation for Practical Classes - Practical classes preparations, Tasks allocation to lab assistants
Purchasing of laboratory materials - Stock requirement documents, Order documentation, Sufficient stock levels, Stocktaking schedules
Practical Classes and Demonstrations - Practical guide recommendations, Students register, Accurate storage records, Feedback, Completed experiments, Clean equipment
Defect Checking and Repair - Cost effective purchasing, Faulty equipment reports, Service schedules, Replacements records, Functional equipment
Research Matters - provide technical assistance to researchers, postgraduate students
Human Resource Management - Work schedules, Staff placement, Positive relations. Updated records.
Administrative Tasks - Annual budget, Appropriate usage of equipment, Accurate records
Health and Safety - Safety lessons. Compliance, Safe working environment, Incidents reports, Visible safety signage
