The Department of Library & Information Science is committed to promoting and transforming Library and Information (LIS) services in South Africa and has a reputation of offering excellent professional, dynamic and contemporary LIS programmes at both the undergraduate and post graduate levels conforming to IFLA's professional LIS Education guidelines, IFLA/UNESCO's Public Library Manifesto and to the BLIS Standards prescribed by the Council of Higher Education.Key performance areas:

• Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the LIS discipline especially Information & AI Literacy, Information Literacy Education, Document Description, ICTs in Libraries, Open Scholarship, Digital Curation, Research Data Management and Research Methods.
• Conduct research and publish in the LIS discipline
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
• Provide academic leadership and administration
• Partake in curriculum development and assessment
• Participate in community engagement and outreach
• Demonstrate technological and digital proficiencies in the LIS environment

Minimum Requirements

• Master's degree in the LIS field or equivalent.
• Evidence of innovative teaching practice at undergraduate level.
• Demonstrated experience (at least one year) in facilitating learning and teaching, preferably in the fields of Information & AI Literacy, Information Literacy Education, Document Description, ICTs in Libraries, Open Scholarship, Digital Curation, Research Data Management and Research Methods.
• A record of quality peer reviewed publications in the field - at least one (1) article in an accredited journal and/or a book chapter published in reputable presses, or equivalent recognised outputs.
• Evidence of postgraduate supervision.

Recommendation:

• Registration of a PhD.
