The School of Pharmacy is seeking to appoint an experienced pharmaceutical scientist to complement and enhance both teaching and research expertise in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Facilitate Learning and Teaching: Deliver lectures and practical sessions in Pharmaceutical Sciences at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Research and scholarly contribution: Conduct high-quality research and publish in reputable, high-impact journals.
  • Student supervision: Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing academic and research guidance.
  • Curriculum development and assessment: Contribute to the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the academic program.
  • Academic administration: Manage administrative responsibilities related to teaching, research, and student support.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Masters degree in Pharmaceutics or Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
  • Teaching experience with a student centred and innovative approach towards teaching and learning.
  • Relevant publications and some experience of supervision or mentorship.
The following would be advantageous:
  • A BPharm qualification and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council SAPC) to practice in South Africa.
  • A PhD in pharmaceutical sciences or related field. Candidates who are in the advanced stages of their PhD, having demonstrated significant progress toward completion.
  • A track record of developing research projects and securing funding.
  • Collaborative partnerships with academic institutions, relevant government departments, pharmaceutical industry and/or research organisations.
  • Appropriate experience in pharmaceutical industry
Required Competencies:
  • Verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to engage and train students, and provide academic supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proficiency in conducting research, analyzing data, and contributing to scholarly publications.
  • Ability to manage academic, research, and administrative responsibilities efficiently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
