  • Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate students, with a particular focus on South African politics, elections, political parties, and governance issues.
  • Provide study leadership at postgraduate level.
  • Initiate, sustain, and provide quality research outputs.
  • Participate in engaged scholarship, including but not limited to media interviews and op-ed pieces.
  • Perform general administrative duties and committee work as applicable at university level.
Inherent Job Requirements:
  • A PhD in Political Science or related discipline on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment)
or
  • Master's degree in political science or related discipline on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD in Political Science or related discipline on NQF Level 10 MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
  • A minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
Recommendations:
  • Three (3) years' relevant experience in teaching at undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage with the media and news outlets and to disseminate knowledge to the broader community.
  • Experience as an external examiner (up to MA level) for postgraduate students.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences.
  • Acted as an editor or deputy-editor of a high-quality national scholarly journal.
  • Served as a member of a national scholarly society.
  • Proven experience in the supervision of postgrad students.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
  • Evidence of engagement with the media and news outlets on pertinent political issues.
