LSW08/100/0424The incumbent will fill this permanent position with the necessary academic profile and vision to contribute to geographical information technology (GIT) teaching and its application in geospatial research at Stellenbosch University (SU). For this advertisement, GIT is defined as all geospatial technologies, including geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial analyses and modelling, and in situ data collection methods such as surveying and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). The incumbent will fill the position with skills specifically in geomatics/geoinformatics and its application to practical research problems.Duties:Academic leadership in GIT;Academic programme development;Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in GIT;Postgraduate supervision in the application of GIT in human or environmental geographical research;Maintaining a productive research programme of GIT applications in environmental studies, urban geography, tourism and / or earth science disciplines;Publication of research results in accredited journals and presenting results at conferences;Securing research funding;Actively participating in all departmental activities and research projects;Academic interaction with the community.Requirements:A masters degree in geomatics / geoinformatics;A growing academic profile in GIT;The ability to lecture in GIT;The ability to supervise postgraduate students in GIT research;Excellent communication and language skills in English (knowledge of other official South African languages will be an added advantage).Recommendations:A PhD in geomatics / geoinformatics;An existing record of research and scientific publication in GIT applications;Proven competence as postgraduate supervisor and administrator;Professional qualifications / registrations in geomatics;Experience as a geoinformation science practitioner;Competencies in general organisational skills;Excellent interpersonal skills.
