Our client is at the forefront of renewable energy innovation in South Africa. Their operations are expanding, and they are seeking a skilled Legal Advisor/Contract Manager to join their dynamic team in Cape Town. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our clients renewable energy projects, primarily focused on Independent Power Producers (IPP).As a Legal Advisor/Contract Manager, you will provide comprehensive legal support and advice to multidisciplinary teams involved in the development, investment, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects. You will work closely under the supervision of the Legal Manager.Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and assistance on various aspects of renewable energy projects.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements including confidentiality agreements, letters of intent, memoranda of understanding, term sheets, partnership agreements, joint development agreements, shareholders agreements, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, land agreements, acquisition and sale of assets, share purchase agreements, and project finance agreements.
  • Prepare legal documentation for responses to calls for tenders for renewable projects and oversee the legal aspects of awarded projects, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advise on contract and legal matters, ensuring the alignment with industry standards and policies.
  • Guide the Renewable Energy Industry practices within South Africa.
  • Coordinate and supervise workstreams with appointed local country panels of external law firms, adhering to group policies.
  • Conduct legal due diligence for claims and litigation in liaison with the Legal Manager.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate policies within your field of responsibility.
  • Provide training and guidelines to operational teams on legal matters.
  • Maintain strong relationships and collaborate with various third parties and peers across Group.
Qualifications and experience required:
  • LLB or BCom Law with further studies in business.
  • Minimum 5 to 6 years in private practice or as an in-house legal advisor, with strong knowledge of South African IPP Power and Renewable projects.
  • Experience within commercial and finance departments of a multinational company.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize work, and effectively deliver under pressure within short timeframes.
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Adaptable to changes in project environments and complexities. Strong interpersonal skills for frequent collaboration with third parties and internal teams.
