Legal and Compliance Officer - Kempton ParkFull job descriptionLegal and Compliance OfficerPosition Overview:As a Legal and Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that our organization operates within legal and regulatory requirements. You will develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to mitigate legal and compliance risks. Additionally, you will collaborate with various departments to provide guidance on legal matters and ensure adherence to industry standards.Responsibilities Include :Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures in accordance with South African laws and regulations.Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify areas of non-compliance and develop corrective action plans.Monitor changes in South African legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to the organization's operations and update policies accordingly.Provide legal advice and support to internal departments on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, labor law, consumer protection, and data privacy, transportation laws, logistics law etcCollaborate with internal stakeholders to design and deliver compliance training programs to employees.Investigate compliance breaches, conduct root cause analysis, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.Prepare and submit regulatory filings and disclosures as required by South African authorities.Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external legal counsel, representing the organization's interests.Stay abreast of industry best practices and trends in legal and compliance management, and recommend enhancements to existing processes.Participate in internal committees and working groups to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized South African university. Admission as an attorney or advocate is preferred.Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal and compliance roles, preferably in a regulated industry in South Africa.In-depth knowledge of South African laws and regulations relevant to the organization, such as the Companies Act, Consumer Protection Act, POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act), and B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.Certification in compliance (e.g., Compliance Institute of South Africa certification) is advantageous.Proficiency in legal research and document drafting.Ethical conduct and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality.Job Type: Full-timeExperience:legal and compliancy: 5 years (Required)Ability to Commute:Kempton Park, Gauteng (Required)
