Job Description


The Transport Operations Manager will oversee all aspects of transport and fleet management, ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective transportation operations. This role requires overseeing the day-to-day activities related to the routing, scheduling, and performance of drivers and vehicles, while also managing budgets, compliance, and customer relationships.Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles to ensure optimal working condition, regular servicing, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Supervise and manage drivers, ensuring adherence to schedules, routes, and safety regulations.
  • Plan and optimize transport routes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, considering traffic, weather, and other factors.
  • Track and report diesel consumption for each vehicle and implement fuel-saving strategies.
  • Ensure drivers have valid licenses, including PDPs, and maintain proper vehicle documentation and licenses.
  • Ensure deliveries and pickups are documented with signed POD forms and invoices.
  • Assist in managing the transport and fleet maintenance budget, controlling costs without compromising service quality.
  • Work closely with customers and sales teams to ensure satisfaction, address complaints, and explore business opportunities.
  • Maintain detailed records of vehicle maintenance, fuel usage, kilometers, and driver performance.
  • Regularly report on operational performance, costs, and discrepancies to senior management.
  • Engage with new and existing clients to secure business, negotiate rates, and explore growth opportunities.
  • Assist in managing insurance claims related to vehicles, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices in transport operations.
  • Analyze transportation costs, identify areas for cost reduction, and implement strategies to optimize expenses.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, or related field preferred
  • Proven experience in transport or fleet management, including driver supervision and vehicle maintenance
  • Demonstrated success in business development
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle compliance, licensing requirements, and road safety regulations
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage budgets and negotiate rates with clients
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick, effective decisions
  • Proficient in fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
