Job Description


Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Section 13 Trade Tested - Millwright.
  • 5 plus years experience in an automotive environment.
  • Government Certificate of Competency, an added advantage.
The Job:Process:
Maintenance Management:
  • Develop the Maintenance strategy and ensure implementation.
  • Provide leadership and manage the Maintenance function and teams.
  • Analyse and interpret Planned Maintenance reports.
  • Analyse and interpret Breakdown reports.
  • Diagnose Plant and equipment problems (fault-finding) and identify opportunities to modify, upgrade, improve or replace equipment and spares.
  • Upkeep of general facilities and utilities.
Maintenance Planning:
  • Compile and manage the Preventive Maintenance Programme according to the Maintenance requirements for machines and equipment.
Maintenance Process (Scheduled):
  • Approve Stores requisition for spares and consumables.
Maintenance Workshop:
  • Ensure the effective management of the maintenance and fabrication workshop.
  • Support R&D with product realisation by fabrication of prototypes and jigs for the use in Manufacturing.
Engineering Projects:
Project Initiation:
  • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control.
  • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub-project and monitor and control actual cost against budget.
Project Planning:
  • Schedule project activities to facilitate effective project execution.
  • Monitor, evaluate and communicate project schedules.
  • Manage implementation of engineering projects.
  • Support the project environment and activities to deliver project objectives.
  • Contribute to the management of project risk.
  • Identify, suggest and implement corrective actions to improve quality of project work.
  • Evaluate and improve the project team's performance.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Keep up to date with latest developments/technologies in Maintenance.
  • Benchmark Maintenance practices against Best Practices.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement interventions.
Reporting:
  • Analyse Maintenance reports and identify opportunities for improvements.
SHEQ:
SHE:
  • Facilitate the management of a Safety, Health and Environmental Management Programme in the workplace (ISO14001 and ISO45001).
  • Ensure compliance to SHE legislation and other requirements (Standards, Best Practices etc.).
  • Operate according to standard operating procedures and within parameters of applicable legislation.
  • Ensure any prescribed statutory inspections and/or tests be performed and records maintained.
  • Ensure that all machinery is installed, operated and maintained (including any safety equipment).
  • Continually monitor and highlight identified hazards and risks in a technical context.
  • Facilitate improvement programs to continually improve upon identified risks.
  • Oversee contractors providing services to ensure they adhere to all SHE site requirements.
  • Examine the causes of accidents/incidents in connection with machinery and make appropriate recommendations and implement corrective actions to prevent its recurrence.
  • Report all machinery failures as contemplated under the General Machinery Regulation as prescribed.
  • Comply with Legal requirements.
  • Implement and maintain robust 5S systems.
Quality Management System:
  • Manage and implement the Maintenance Quality Assurance systems.
  • Improve employees awareness within the department of quality targets and objectives.
  • Ensure that the Maintenance department works within the ISO Quality System as well as conformance to the ISO 14001 standard.
Policies and Procedures:
  • Initiate, approve, develop and update Maintenance Policies, Procedures, Protocols, Work Instructions, Codes of Practice, etc.
Other:
Financial Management:
  • Provide input into the budget process.
  • Monitor performance against budget (expense controls, variances, etc.).
  • Initiate requests for Capex/disposal/transfers.
  • Participate in the audit process.
  • Adhere to Financial Policies and Procedures.
  • Protect company assets (working capital & fixed assets).
  • Detect and prevent fraud.
  • Promote good Corporate Governance.
Staff Management:
  • Participate in the implementation and utilisation of equity related processes.
  • Compile and update performance contracts and individual development plans and facilitate individual career path planning.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage sub-standard performance.
