Job Description


PURPOSE OF THE JOBTo safely maintain all electricals and instrumentation related equipment to ensure minimal production downtime and maximized production while utilizing automation technology to improve safety and efficiencyBALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

  • Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
  • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
  • Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
  • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status us
CUSTOMERS
  • Ensure Customer Satisfaction
  • Understand how the operation works and the effect of electrical and instrumentation equipment on its deliverable and the way it operates and vice-a-versa
  • Proactively seek ways of improving equipment reliability, planned maintenance, electrical and instrumentation systems in the plant
  • Conduct regular scheduled plant inspections to ensure standardisation of equipment and procedures
  • Provide regular feedback with regards to team actions and performance to operational and maintenance personnel in the plant area
  • Attend plant area production and maintenance meetings on a daily basis
  • Monitoring of MES in areas of responsibility, control and report on downtime data
  • Conduct and distribute RCFA reports
BUSINESS PROCESSESOperational
  • Ensure that the SAP PM data and work management meets Samancor Chrome Standards at all times
  • Monitor corrective maintenance workload versus available manpower
  • Coach and mentor team members on effective plant maintenance management
  • Create quality awareness and quality service awareness with the team
  • Provide regular feedback to the Plant Maintenance Superintendent
  • Monitor and minimize overtime worked by team members
  • Compile and submit monthly team performance report
  • Monitor and maintain HQMS.
Plant Availability
  • Check downtime data, investigate where necessary and take corrective action
  • React swiftly to any plant stoppages involving electrical and instrumentation equipment or automation faults
  • Liaise with various departments and sections
  • Accurately file documentation for easy retrieval
  • Compile preventative maintenance schedules on electrical and instrumentation equipment
  • Authenticate PLC programs and ensure adequate back up facilities are available
  • Provide advice, training and support to team members with regards to troubleshooting and suspected automation related defects
Plant Reliability
  • Perform mean time between failures calculations and take steps to solve down-time problems
  • Facilitate the implementation of modifications according to procedures
  • Assist team members to resolve all requirements, concerns and faults within the plant
  • Plan activities required to achieve full operation on all equipment and systems
  • Monitor progress and activity on all systems, both during start up and during operation
  • Monitor data/program integrity
  • Optimise plant/process/control performance
Development
  • Develop and present training modules to HRD standards
  • Provide specialist technical advise/assistance to team members.
Projects and Commissioning
  • Advise Engineering/Maintenance/Production departments on electrical and instrumentation related aspects
  • Plan, implement, order spares and commission assigned projects
  • Keep abreast with latest equipment/technologies/trends
  • Write specifications for stock item spares
  • Write software programs for assigned projects
  • Develop and commission approved systems
  • Develop relevant reports on installed automation and reporting systems
  • Log engineering requests on any plant deficiencies identified
Standby
  • Perform senior standby duties on designate areas from time to time
  • Report any bridging or plant stoppages during call outs immediately to the Engineer on standby
  • Inform the Maintenance Superintendent of any stoppages longer than 2 hours relating to electrical and instrumentation equipment and/or automation systems after hours
  • Provide specialized on-site assistance to electrical and instrumentation standby personnel if requested or should a call out extend longer than 3 hours
Cost Control
  • Regularly review cost reports, investigate over-expenditure and take corrective actions

  • Relevant Degree/Higher Certificate/National Diploma
  • 4 years' relevant experience, preferably 1 year's supervisory experience
