We have an exciting position for a Manager Engineering who will be responsible for our asset management and engineering capabilities, driving tangible value creation by enhancing stability, reducing variability, and surpassing benchmarks through sustainable technical advancements across our Kumba operations.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

As Manager Engineering you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Managing a safe and healthy work environment where employees, including contractors, can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
  • Create a long-term engineering roadmap that aligns with the Business and Group's overall strategic goals, technology adoption, and integration into existing systems .
  • Drive the development and implementation of engineering and maintenance processes to create and sustain current, and enable new, business opportunities and competitive advantage .
  • Ensure engineering and maintenance run at optimum efficiencies at the desired technical standards by following the AS&R Framework and standards.
  • Identify and utilize proven engineering and maintenance technologies to maximize the value of resources, with minimized safety, health, and environmental risks in alignment with the Resource Development Plan (RDP) .
  • Align with Group on Anglo American AS&R Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP).
  • Manage engineering deliverables for related projects that are aligned with Anglo Projects Way .
  • Provide process engineering training and exposure to bursary students and PITs.
  • Assurance of maintenance and HME (including opex, capex) plans .
  • Manage sustainability activities, integrate engineering and maintenance commitments into the discipline's 5- year plan, ensure sufficient resources, support site-specific integration, comply with environmental and social requirements, identify risks, translate opportunities, and foster awareness of sustainability within the discipline for effective decision-making
This role is in the Asset Strategy and Reliability (ENG) at a Band 5 level reporting to Head of Technical & Projects.

Qualifications
  • BEng Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration advantageous
  • SA Drivers licence
Experience
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and maintenance in mining
  • Expertise in AS&R Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP), and Resource Development Plan (RDP)
  • Knowledge of tender processes, contractor administration, and financial progress monitoring
  • Experience in a management position, including the successful strategic management of a large sub-functional team
  • Knowledge of safety and risk management processes
  • Advanced operational experience of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of other legislation applicable to all engineering and maintenance
