Join Our Team as a Manager, Mine Closure

We are seeking an individual to lead the Mine Closure Team, in developing mine closure liability assessments, mine closure risk assessments, mine closure strategies and plans, and guiding our clients through the mine closure process. In addition to this, identify and develop new and improved services within the department placing it at the forefront of the industry.Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, growth, and technical output of the Mine Closure Department.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary project team consisting of mine closure consultants as well as other internal and external specialists.
  • Management of workload schedules for the department and ensuring effective workforce planning.
  • Effectively carry out project management on closure related projects using the organisations methodology and principles to ensure that the projects are delivered on time, within budget and against our quality standards.
  • Develop mine closure strategies, plans, policies and procedures according to client and country specific needs.
  • Calculate mine closure costs that are practical and satisfy regulatory requirements and act as a senior reviewer of mine closure costs.
  • Liaison with clients and financial auditors to address mine closure liability queries.
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients in terms of mine closure planning and implementation.
  • Address complex mine closure challenges using Project related information and clearly articulate findings and recommendations using reports, graphs, maps, etc.
  • Consulting and collaborating with other internal and external specialists to develop appropriate technical solutions to specific aspects of closure planning, such as waste dump design, open pit rehabilitation, contaminated land, surface rehabilitation, or treatment of mine affected water.
  • Develop alternative mine closure measures and strategies to manage residual risks at closure.
  • Develop and implement mine closure project plans, in consultation with clients, to guide decommissioning and rehabilitation activities.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of mine closure plans and liability assessments and present findings.
  • Carry out site visits (locally and internationally) and contextualize mine closure scenarios.
  • Utilise available software packages to analyse and interpret spatial data.
  • Act as a key accounts manager for designated clients through regular meetings, networking, and fulfilling a project sponsor role on Mine Closure Projects.
  • Build and maintain relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Carry out Business Development and Marketing initiatives.
Requirements:
Skills and Experience:
  • Effective people management, which includes, development, recruitment, coaching and mentoring, succession planning, budget, and performance management.
  • Consulting and Project Management Experience.
  • Mine Closure Cost calculation experience.
  • Strong understanding and practical implementation of applicable local and international Mine Closure Guidelines and country specific legislation.
  • Understanding different rehabilitation techniques.
  • Knowledge of country specific requirements for Mine Closure (locally and internationally).
  • Knowledge of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) processes.
  • Read and understand engineering designs and associated outputs.
  • Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Strong sense of accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and report writing.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Outstanding time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel locally and internationally.
  • Capability to manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
Qualifications
  • BSc. Engineering/Environmental Science or similar.
  • Experience with GIS software and analysis of spatial data would be beneficial.
  • Experience with Model Maker Systems or similar software would be beneficial.
  • SACNASP registration would be beneficial.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and passport.
