ICS, in line with growing its capability and supporting the Digital Transformation Strategy of UWC, offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager: Networks (Convergence) in the ICS IT Operations and Services Support unit.The primary purpose of the Manager: Networks (Convergence) is to to oversee and manage the University's network infrastructure. This includes designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing network systems to ensure maximum uptime, performance, and security. Your role involves leading a team of network engineers and technicians, coordinating with other IT teams, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver a world class network experience to support the Learning, Teaching and Research programmes at the University. The successful candidate will act as the subject matter expert for the network area, providing authoritative guidance and technical expertise.The key role and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and lead a team of network engineers and technicians;
  • Ensure optimised, reliable, and available network services and connectivity to all campuses and residences;
  • Manage LAN, WIFI, WAN, and Converged infrastructure at a technical, architectural, and planning (including new building projects) level;
  • Manage vendors to ensure service level agreements are met;
  • Represent the network team and ICS in management, project and service related meetings;
  • Coordinate OPEX and CAPEX expenditure for the team;
  • Report on activities, projects, maintenance, and risks to ICS Management;
  • Provide reporting on the capacity, availability, and reliability of the network infrastructure as per SLA requirements.
Minimum Requirements
  • A NQF7 (or higher) level qualification in a relevant field.
  • Internationally recognised certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE (Cisco) or Huawei Certified ICT Professional (HCIP).
  • ITIL Certification
  • A minimum 8 (eight) years' relevant networking infrastructure experience inclusive of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated Project Management experience relevant to networking deployments
  • Demonstrated experience working in a large Enterprise or HEI environment using either Cisco or Huawei technology
Competencies Required
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience guiding and developing team members.
  • Strong troubleshooting and Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Capable of project managing network related projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical abilities make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving network environments, growing organizational needs and changing user demands.
