Our activities include all aspects - exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.As our Manager Processing of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Oversee consistent application of Safety and Health principles in all discipline interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of oneself and others to ensure zero harm and the elimination of fatalities.
  • Function as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
  • Provide an environment for on-site discipline to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours.
  • Consider safety and health impacts for neighbouring communities during decision-making within the discipline.
  • Develop discipline-specific plans and systems to reduce exposure to discipline-specific risks.
  • Design and approve operational risk management systems to assess critical risks and monitor the effectiveness of critical controls within the discipline.
  • Identify PUEs and monitor critical control performance within the discipline.
  • Ensure teams under management embed critical controls into daily work practices and routines.
  • Monitor and ensure the effectiveness of disciplined Safety and Health systems.
  • Assess the safety leadership capabilities of direct reports and the capability potential of the broader team.
  • Monitor all discipline teams' compliance with safety requirements per the Operating Model workflow.
  • Engage in physical safety checks, interventions, and coaching.
  • Implement KPIs, analyse data on discipline safety, and address gaps within their teams.
  • Direct continual internal safety audits to meet all safety requirements.
  • Co-ordinate site visits by internal and external visitors to ensure adherence to site safety systems (including induction).
  • Specify the production and service work that will optimise the process delivery of the current operating specifications.
  • Specify any work practices required to put policies, procedures, systems, and standards in place to restrict process variation and prevent special cause events.
  • Specify the Operating Master and Expenditure Schedules, which specify the work approval and execution roadmap.
  • Provides specialist technical support to the operation and projects required within the area of functioning, i.e. Crushing & Screening, DMS, JIG QA/QC, Automation, and integration.
  • Customer satisfaction index, Throughput achievement and Product quality conformance.
  • Acts as subject matter expert- develops and implements metallurgical blueprint for their area of functioning.
  • Process standards conformance,
  • Conformance to client requirements.
  • Provides technical input for process troubleshooting and solves complex metallurgical problems for specific processes/systems.
  • Contributes to knowledge sharing and best practice transfer.
  • Oversee the technical reporting of process performance in the area.
  • Ensure optimal equipment and process operation.
  • Liaises up and downstream to provide the best support and input to process performance.
  • Plant efficiency (ore utilisation).
  • Expert level of understanding of installed equipment and processes.
  • Improvement of processes as measured against base.
  • Identify and implement ideas to improve and develop processes and equipment to ensure cost and process efficiency.
  • Take part in multi-functional teams to share expert knowledge to improve and optimise processes.
  • Investigate identified opportunities to determine the potential for improvement or optimisation of plant processes.
  • Implement and monitor approved initiatives for confirmation of desired outcomes.
  • Investigate and resolve all external client queries within a reasonable time.
  • Input into developing and testing new growth ideas for viability in preparation to be taken through the various project phases.
  • Conformance to growth strategy targets.
  • Metallurgical integrity of projects.
  • Provide metallurgical input to project teams to ensure metallurgical integrity is maintained.
  • Ensure that the necessary preparation activities are done before commencement, such as conducting an in-depth investigation to determine the scope of the project & alternatives and making recommendations to achieve project success.
  • Successful project outcomes and delivery, Timeliness of project completion, Accuracy of cash flow forecast.
  • SHE performance of contractors and employees.
  • Monitor and manage project contractors to ensure conformance to the Mine's requirements, safety regulations and standards when performing their work.
  • Execute projects based on well-established project management principles, i.e. cost management.
  • Lead technical support for Life of Asset Plan sustainability initiatives, integrating Sustainable Mining Plan commitments, managing environmental and social risks, ensuring compliance with SHE and Social Way criteria, fostering local partnerships, and participating in site-level interaction forums for the discipline.
  • Provide operational excellence support and technical advice to project teams, establish a mining engineering and survey centre of excellence, offer to consult to projects and operations, and manage the mining technology program.
  • Leadership and Culture: Promote an inclusive, purpose-driven culture, actively participating in team procedures and implementing effective team processes to encourage continuous improvement and alignment with company values.
  • Talent Development: Oversee discipline-wide talent development and address gaps through coaching and implementing succession planning to focus on critical roles.
  • Dispute Resolution: Engage in local dispute resolution with employee representative bodies as relevant to the discipline and escalate when required.
  • Compliance Governance Oversight: Establish and manage comprehensive compliance governance and ensure actions for compliance within the discipline.
  • Incident Investigation and Learning Implementation: Lead comprehensive investigations for safety, health, environment, and social incidents within the discipline, adhering to appropriate processes to ensure the implementation of learnings.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Communication: Ensure the sharing of learnings within the discipline through appropriate channels.
This role is in Processing (PRO) department on a band 5.14 level reporting to the Assistant General Manager Sishen MineQualifications
  • 4-year B-Engineering in Metallurgical/ Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or equivalent on NQF8
  • SA Driver's license
  • Postgraduate in Business Management will be advantageous.
Technical Knowledge
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in a processing mining environment, including 3 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Understand the metallurgical processes in the plant based on beneficiation technology, providing technical input for saleable production using different processing methods, and solving complex problems through the application of metallurgical and Processing tools and techniques.
  • Understand quality management chemical analysis of feed, product, and waste streams to ensure planned business performance (For non-chemists: Has an essential awareness of Chemistry, its applications, and the value it adds to their sub-discipline).
  • Understand research methodologies, including concept development, feasibility studies, and experimental design, to achieve more effective
  • Understand project management standards to refine the effective delivery of Metallurgy project activities.
  • Understands the principles of Mineralogy and relevant tools and techniques to support mineralogical investigations. Operation (For non-Mineralogists: An essential awareness of Mineralogy, its applications, and the value it adds to their sub-discipline).
